Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Reasons I love…

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Reasons I love…. could be a certain book, character, author, your indie bookstore, a fandom, a tv show, reading, a hobby, a genre. Honestly anything you want to gush about.

Making things

1 Making things can be relaxing

I like making things, it relaxes me. If I go long periods without being some kind of creative I get stressed easier or I have a shorter temper. Making things is just a nice little outlet.

2 Making things can be stress relieving

Not the same thing as relaxing!
I find crochet very therapeutic for example, especially when I’m wound up. It must be the repartition of the weaving motion. When you’re doing something like a blanket and you’re doing a large section of the same stitch you can even switch off and later you’ll discover that you’ve wound down and you’re not particularly bothered about whatever any more.
(of course, if you’re crocheting to a deadline, that can be more stressful if you left it too late…)

3 Making things can be a good use of time

I find it had to just sit and watch something. So, I often craft when I’m watching my various fandoms. That way I’ve watched what I needed to/wanted to AND I’ve got something to show for the time being spent!

4 Making things can be cheaper/better

Sometimes I look at things for sale and realise I could make that!
A big motivator is if I can make it cheaper than what it’s sold for. Sometimes I even have the required items already and therefore it costs me nothing!  That’s my favourite kind of craft.
Another motivator is that it means you know what’s in it. Especially when it comes to cakes and grooming products. We consume and cover ourselves with so many additives and chemicals is it any surprise we’re getting sicker and sicker?

5 Making things can give you a sense of accomplishment

When you’ve finished something and it’s worked out well, you can sit there and say “I did that!” and when people ask where you got the item or you give it to someone and they find out you made it and they’re impressed it’s a pretty great feeling! ( their surprise can feel pretty good too, even if it’s actually somewhat insulting).
It’s also a pretty big motivator for making things because then you can feel spectacularly impressed with yourself and who doesn’t love that feeling?

LISTS!

6 Lists Make Everything Neat and Tidy

I’m a neat freak. I like things in their place, and preferably in some sort of organised order… big to small, light to dark, ALPHABETICAL. I don’t care just some kind of order. Lists are organised they are smart, they make everything look simple.

7 Lists are Helpful – They Improve Concentration

I like an organised life because my brain is basically like a broken sieve trying to contain a lot of useless space-jelly. My thoughts are always jumping around all over the place and if I don’t write things down I forget them pretty quickly. In a way, I would say writing lists has stopped me from going insane. My brain is less cluttered and I sometimes get things done! They at least allow me to concentrate on completely a few things.

8 Lists Prevent Embarrassing Situations

There is nothing worse than forgetting something important. A birthday, a passport, a text book etc. By making lists you reduce the likelihood of forgetting that important thing. Lists reduce stress and make sure you remember everything!

9 Lists Make Things Seem Easy

Have you ever thought about a task and thought ‘I’m never going to finish it’. A list can break down a task that seems daunting into manageable chunks. Just think of the instructions for any ikea furniture. Who knew you could put together a bed? A desk? Or a set of shelves? Simples!

10 Lists are Satisfying

In the end a list is satisfying. Whether its in the splurging out of random things that you may never look at or think about again or in the ticking off of tasks that lead to a celebration of a job well done, It doesn’t matter, just enjoy it! For me personally its the creation that I enjoy, that and finding them months later and ticking them off.

  1. Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem

I love both topics!!! I love to make things. I crochet and I’m always looking for DIY ideas. It’s fun and relaxing, plus I can get my son involved (most of the times). And I cannot live without lists. I make a list for everything. Drives my husband bananas!

Pinterest is fantastic for any type of idea, I love it.

      Nice list!

  2. Charnell @ Reviews from a Bookworm

Oh yes, great pick for this weeks prompt! Love that this prompt means nearly all our posts are about something different. I am good at one of these things and awful at the other. I could make lists for days, but actually making useful things… I SUCK AT IT! haha Although I really wish I didn’t. List are satisfying, especially when I get to tick things off. You can check my TTT post out here.

Making Things – I make each of my nieces & nephews a bed sized afghan. It is so satisfying when they cherish them.

Lists – I couldn’t live without them. I make them all day long.

      That’s fantastic!

I’ve been subscribed to audible for ages now and my collection of audio books keeps growing, but despite loving them as a child, I seem to be scared to start them again! It’s ridiculous, I don’t know why. Your list has fantastic reasons for them!
