Broken Bannersnight studyWinner's KissREBEL OF THE SANDsthe rose and the dagger

Broken Banners (ARoS #2)

by Mark Gelineau and Joe King – February 2016 – 5 Voodoos

We’re big fans of these guys on this blog, they have 4 interlinking series but of the 4 the A Reaper of Stone series is my absolute favourite! We’ve just had book two of the 4th, so next should be book 3 of the first, which is this series! I read this right after it was out and came across the ending far too quickly. When the next one shows up I may read all three in a row and truly emerge myself in the world of Elinor. If you haven’t heard of these guys yet, you really need to check their work out.

Night Study (SF #2)

by Maria. V. Snyder – February 2016 – 5 Voodoos

I love this world created by Maria, especially the Study storyline. I wasn’t such a fan of the glass series and I missed it out in my re-read – horrid mistake, I’m now making it a point to say: “DON’T SKIP THE GLASS SERIES.” with persistent regularity. I’d forgotten who half these people were! I didn’t think it possible but I might just be enjoying this second series more than the first!

The Winner’s Kiss (TWT #3)

by Marie Rutkoski – March 2016 – 5 Voodoos

This series! It was so bittersweet and fantastic. This book was such a fantastic conclusion to the story of these two star crossed lovers. Both main characters were very clever, though one more so than the other! You’ll have to read this series to discover which is which…

Rebel of the Sands (RotS #1)

by Alwyn Hamilton - February 2016 – 4.5 Voodoos

I was really looking forward to this one and I read it as soon as it arrived. It was fantastic! It had such a unique idea behind it, I look forward to seeing where it goes next!

5 The Rose and The Dagger (TWatD #2)

by Renee Ahdieh - April 2016 – 5 Voodoos

I LOVED this duology. This is how I like my books to deal with romance. Side stepping Cliche’s and waltzing around traps, it was beautiful and i nearly missed it! Thanks Ms4Tune for buying my the first one for my birthday! I want to re-read them now…

6 Wild Swans

by Jessica Spotswood – May 2016 - 5 Voodoos

I’ve dipped into the Contemporary YA scene before but not really been impressed enough to say I need more! But 2016 has thrown some great Contemporary YA my way and I’m starting to see what all the fuss is about. I read Wild Swans in May and loved the characters, their complex relationships and the atmosphere of the island life. It was lovely to read about family and friendship and the highs and lows of it all. Can anyone recommend any other YA Contemporary’s, I might like?

7 A Gathering of Shadows (SoM #2)

by V E Schwab – February 2016 – 5 Voodoos

It’s V E Schwab, does anything else have to be said? A great continuation to an epic series. I can’t wait for the next book!

8 The King Slayer (TWH #2)

by Virginia Boecker – June 2016 – 5 Voodoos

I liked the first book but this second book took me by surprise. I can’t believe how great it was, it was everything it needed to be and more. All those little faults I had with book one had disappeared and I devoured it in one day. I can’t believe its all over now :(

9 Every Exquisite Thing

by Matthew Quick – May 2016 – 4.5 Voodoos

I’d heard great things about Matthew Quick’s books but I’d never read any of them, until now. I loved this book. It was clever and moving and had me falling to pieces with all the feelings!

10 Jane Steele

by Lyndsay Faye – March 2016 – 4 Voodoos

I never thought you could take Jane Eyre and make it better but this dirty, gritty and all in all kick-ass version was amazing! I loved it. I recommend it to everyone.

YES to AGOS! It’s on my list this week too. I actually bought Rebel of the Sands as soon as it came out but I haven’t got to it yet for some reason. I’ve also got both of the The Wrath & The Dawn books on my shelves too, so great to hear you enjoyed the series. I think I’ll be doing a binge read! I decided to hold of reading the first one until book two came out. Here’s hoping the second part of 2016 is as awesome for new releases (I strongly suspect it will be). Happy reading! x

      Hi Rhoda!

ME TOO! To the Rebel of the Sands comment lol. Paein read it first and said I had to read it but I haven’t had a chance yet. Let me know what you think when you finally get round to it.

I’ve only read AGOS off your list but most of your list is in my TBR pile. I will have to bump them all up the list! There are so many good books this year so far, I don’t know how I’m going to fit them all in! Is it just me or does anyone feel like they’re always behind no matter how many books they read?

    2. Paein

I waited too! So happy I did, I got to read all the magic at once instead of having to wait, then forgetting some of it. I hope you enjoy it!

  2. Milka Väinämö

I really need to read Jane Steele – I was kind of skeptical about it when I first read the synopsis, but I have heard only good things about it so far!

    1. Ms4Tune

I was skeptical too, but it really was a clever interpretation. I hope you get a chance to read it. Let me know if you agree?

    1. Paein

      Maybe wait for book 2? I think there was a bit of a cliffy, though it’s been more than a week so my memory’s iffy on the finer details ( ;

Your little voodoo dolls are so adorable!
I definitely agree with The Winner’s Kiss. That book (and series!) was amazing.
And I’ll take your warning about Night Study. I will read the glass series before I read this one! I’ve only read one Maria V Snyder series (The Healer series and I LOVED that one. It was so well done) and really need to get onto reading her other stuff because I’ve heard the best things about her books! Great list guys :D

    1. Paein

Thank you! I’m pretty proud of them.
That’s the only one of her series that I’e not finished! I never quite got to the end.
In that case you’ll need to read the Study series before you read the glass series. I read them the wrong way around and I think it REALLY affected how I feel about them. Night study is in the soulfinders series which is a continuation of the study series. Confused yet? :p

I’m glad you enjoyed Lady Midnight! I’m planning on getting back into this world soon. And I’m way behind with the BDB! There’s a 14th book??

      1. Kate @ Fictional Thoughts

Just to clarify- Should I read the Soulfinders series before reading Study and then glass? I really prefer to read books in order but sometimes authors don’t make it easy :P

        1. Paein

Opps, sorry for confusing you! Here’s the series/reading order on goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/series/111197
It’s the Study series, the Glass series then the Soulfinders series. They heavily involve all the same characters and though the Glass series has a different main character to the other two, some of it’s characters are in Soulfinders so you need to know who they are.

  4. Lauren Stoolfire

I’m glad to see A Gathering of Shadows on your list! I loved A Darker Shade of Magic and I can’t wait to continue the series! :)

    1. Ms4Tune

How could it not be on this list! I can’t wait either, I hate waiting a year in between each book, but at least it gives us something to look forward too :)

  5. Annemieke

We share Gathering of Shadows and Rebel of the Sands. I also have one of Joe King and Mark Gelinaeu on my list. I cant wait for the next ones to come out. <3

    1. Ms4Tune

I love how everyone has a different favourite Gelineau and King series. Mines Rend the Dark :)
