In this FREE post-apocalyptic romantic urban fantasy short story, a tough mercenary known as Nisha the Heartless is hired to transport mysterious cargo from exotic New Asia to a well-paying client.

But things are never what they seem in a dark new world now populated by humans and the Strange: shapeshifters and telepaths, nymphs and hobgoblins. It is a lesson Nisha learns all too soon – one that puts her on a journey with a dangerously sexy, enigmatic man who will force her to confront the nightmares of her past, and risk her heart for a future she never dreamed could be hers….

I’ve read several Lara Adrian books in the past and enjoyed them, so I chose this as my first book in my kindle clear out.

It started of well, nicely paced and informative enough to pull you in. The characters were introduced well and enough back story given – though some facts were repeated quite a lo more than necessary and wasted important story space, because this was so short! Yes, again my complaint is shortness of story, though I do think that this time the length impacted on the quality of the storyline.

There was what is refereed to as ‘instalove’ in this story, which is totally fine and something I can accept IF there’s an explanation. There wasn’t one so far as I could tell and it was somewhat annoying. Things don’t get better as the rest of the story is a rush. I mean, I know it’s a rush, but thinking back on it it seems split into two halves. A smooth slide in and a sudden scramble to the end. If the sudden scramble had involved the same level of information as the smooth slide this would have been fantastic, but I’m left with too many questions about these characters and this world after the end of the story and it doesn’t seem to be part of a series which would make sense as novellas like this are often designed to pull people in. But I can’t see a series for it and I’ve had this book on my kindle since January 2013.

A good start to something that could be spectacular, but where’s the rest of it?!
