Musing Monday

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from Books and a Beat!

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…
Up next I think I’ll readThe Assassin’s Game by Kirsty McKay

Assassin's Game

Who will be left after lights out?

At Cate’s isolated boarding school, Killer is more than a game- it’s an elite secret society. Members must avoid being “Killed” during a series of thrilling pranks, and only the Game Master knows who the “Killer” is. When Cate’s finally invited to join the Assassins’ Guild, she know it’s her ticket to finally feeling like she belongs.

But when the game becomes all too real, the school threatens to shut it down. Cate will do anything to keep playing and save the Guild. But can she find the real assassin before she’s the next target?

Originally published in the United Kingdom by Chicken House in 2015 under title: Killer game.

So I have this as a Review Copy from Netgalley. It’s expected to be re-released on the 2nd of August with this new cover. It sounds similar to Nerve by Jeanne Ryan which I didn’t really like, so I’m hoping this one has more suspense, more gruesomeness and just more everything!

Have you read this? Or something similar?

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What’s your most favorite “chunky” book? (over 500 pages)

Wow this is a difficult question. MOST favourite… so I can only choose one? I’ve not read many chunky books because they scare me but if I had to choose I think I’d choose The Goblet of Fire by J K Rowling.

Goblet of Fire

I chose this one, mainly because it’s a Harry Potter book and they will always be at the top of my list, but this one in particular because it has great memories attached to it.

My Mum had bought books 1,2 and 3 the previous summer (1999) to entertain us while stuck in the Caravan for two weeks – like all caravaning holidays it rained – a lot. My Mum and Dad took it in turns to read them to us (my brother and me) and they did all the voices which we thought was amazing and remember laughing and crying and just loving every moment of it. It brought us all closer together as a family and so when we found out the next book wouldn’t be out till the following year Mum promised to preorder it for us so we could read it together next Summer. So this book was the first book I actively waited for, and the first book that made Caravaning holidays exciting. I love this book.

Black magician

Now I know we were only supposed to choose one but I’d also like to mention the The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. Book 1 techniquely doesn’t count because it was 467 pages long but the other two are over 500 pages. This series was the first magic series I read as an adult and I loved them so much. If you haven’t read them yet I would highly recommend them.
