Musing Monday

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from Books and a Beat!

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…
I’m currently readingThe Magician by Raymond E Feist

Fantasy – At Crydee, a frontier outpost in the tranquil Kingdom of the Isles, an orphan boy, Pug, is apprenticed to a master magician – and the destinies of two worlds are changed forever. Suddenly the peace of a Kingdom is destroyed as mysterious alien invaders swarm through the land. Pug is swept up into the conflict but for him and his warrior friend, Tomas, an odyssey into the unknown has only just begun. Tomas will inherit a legacy of savage power from an ancient civilisation. Pug’s destiny is to lead him through a rift in the fabric of space and time to the mastery of the unimaginable powers of a strange new magic…

I am finally FINALLY reading Magician. My dad gave me his copy about 4 years ago saying ‘You just have to read this!’ a sentence he only uses about very special books. With this sentence he’s introduced me to Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, DBC Pierre’s Vernon God Little and Trudi Canavan’s Dark Magician’s series so I know Magician’s is going to be good and I have no real excuse as to why I’ve not read it yet. Jumping into this 800+ page book before I lose my nerve!

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Name a book that you hope to re-read some day.

I’m not big on re-reading. There’s always a new book out there that needs reading so I’ve only ever re-read a book when I haven’t anything else at hand. But if I was to reread a book I would probably choose Harry Potter. I just finished The Cursed Child and while I enjoyed it, it did make me miss the original stories and all their magical quality! Maybe I will re-read these.

(In case you were wondering I buy books so I have a constant supply of books I want to read and only keep the ones I want to recommend to everyone and anyone).

I understand the not re-reading because there are so many books on hand. I’d feel guilty choosing to re-read one when there are so many left untouched! I love hearing books from people that say “You have to read this!” they usually end up being fantastic recommendations!

Hi Danica, phew I’m glad everyones being so understanding, I thought I maybe the only one who doesn’t re-read books! Fingers crossed Magician will be great. It’s long but it’s easy to read so so far I’m enjoying it.

I completely understand you about not rereading often. As much as I love some of my favourites, I always feel I’m spending time that could be used to discover new stories. And with the size of my TBR pile, I feel a little guilty and wasteful to not be working through those.

Great choice on HP though, I reread 1-3 recently but to avoid spoilers I think I’m going to have to jump ahead to The Cursed Child.

Hi Ellis, Ha I feel your pain, I’m always worried by TBR pile is going to fall over soon and bury me alive (…although I can think of worse ways to go). I thought about re-reading them before The Cursed Child but like you I didn’t want to be reading spoilers everywhere so I gave in and just read it. It’s a good companion to the series, if a little different. :) I hope you enjoy it! (Ps come back and let me know what you think!)

Gorgeous cover on Magician, and the blurb sounds wonderful.

I always think about rereading, but haven’t done much of that since I was very young…when there seemed to be fewer choices of new books to read. Thanks for sharing…and here’s MY MUSING MONDAYS POST

      Hi Laurel-Rain,
I do love an old cover don’t you?! I love the colours and the complexity of the scenes, you instantly know its a fantasy. The new cover is primarily black and I’m not as keen.

That’s exactly it! I was the same. I would re-read books all the time when I was little but now, there are so many more worlds to explore. I just don’t have time.

And so you should Lauren :) Harry Potter is amazing and I really do want to re-read it soon. Yes, go read it! I’ve only read 10% so far but I’m really enjoying it. It’s a proper old school fantasy.
