Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, dive into the cold case, starting with a search for Jenny’s fiance, who went missing the night she died. But when a new, gruesome murder closely mirrors the events of ten years prior, Abigail and Jackaby realise that Jenny’s case isn’t so cold after all, and her killer may be far more dangerous than they suspected. Fantasy and folklore mix with mad science as Abigail’s race to unravel the mystery leads her across the cold cobblestones of nineteenth-century New England, down to the mythical underworld, and deep into her colleagues’ grim histories to battle the most deadly foe she has ever faced.

So these are my first impressions of Ghostly Echoes, the third book in the quirky and humorous series, Jackaby. I received the first six chapters from the publisher through Netgalley. Even from this short sample I can already tell that I’m going to love this book.

Ghostly Echoes jumps straight back into the mystery that surrounds Jenny’s death. Jenny is the ghost that lives in the house with Jackaby and Abigail. Ever since book one we’ve known that Jenny’s death was quite disturbing and that Jenny doesn’t deal well with reminiscing about her past but Jenny has finally decided she wants to know the truth and has asked Abigail to help her. It’s no surprise to find that Jenny’s death is more significant than we were originally lead to believe but how significant is yet to be seen and explained.

It will be exciting to find out more about Jenny, she was always there in the last two books but always as a background character. I can’t wait to find out what really happened to her. I’m also excited to see more of the team work that’s been developing between Jackaby and Abigail. When they get going they are so amusing. I’ve already laughed out loud a couple of times in this short excerpt alone and it can only get better!

All in all I’m impressed with what I’ve read so far and can’t wait to get stuck into the full story very soon. Watch this space for my full review nearer the release date. (Sorry UK peep’s you will have to be more patient than others we’ve got another month to wait but for those living in the US – Not long now only a week and a half! eeek!)
