Sum It Up Sunday – August 2016

pamsumitup

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Paein: Still re-reading the first half of The Mortal Instruments ready for the second half/Listening to the end of The Lord of The Rings

city of glass The Return of the King

Ms4Tune: Still reading Magician but I’m making progress in this 832 page tombstone.
I’m also reading The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie cos I’ve fallen behind in my Popsugar Challenge.

What was your favourite book this month?

Paein: I’ve read very little so far this month, I’ve been terribly busy but I’d say Extracted by Sherry D. Ficklin was my favourite non re-read.

extracted

Ms4Tune: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child because Scorpius is amazing.

What was your least favourite book this month?

Paein: Probably The Fellowship of The Ring by JRR Tolkien. I just spent so much of it wondering where the end was.

the fellowship of the ring

Ms4Tune: Sadly I will have to say The Flame Never Dies by Rachel Vincent.
I’ve read a lot of sequels this month but this one I’ve forgotten most of already.

The Flame Never Dies

What do you want to read next?

Paein: Hmm, well I could continue with The Mortal Instruments OR I might choose either Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige OR Forbidden by Katrina Snow.

Ms4Tune: Probably Brightwood by Tania Usworth or Labyrinth Lost by Zaraida Cordova
Look at those Covers! Gorgeous aren’t they.

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

Paein: Maybe the Stealing Snow novellas, depending on how I like the book, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child will be mine one way or another and on Pre-order I have Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes) by Sara Raasch and Elite (Hunter) by Mercedes Lackey.

Ms4Tune: Yay it’s September. Empire of Storms by Sarah Maas, Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake and of course Crooked Kingdoms by Leigh Bardugo.
SO EXCITED!!!!

How are your challenges going?

Paein: Working on a series to complete right now and ticked another off on my pop sugar challenge!
Not bad for the almost 1-book-a-week month this seems to have become

Ms4Tune:  Popsugar isn’t but my series challenge is going well.
I’ve also decided to do the A-Z Author Challenge because I realised I’ve done half already and it shouldn’t be too hard to complete this year. Fingers-crossed.

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

Paein: Sleep? Oh, book related, sorry. I’m going to…Try and get a full month of Instagram Daily posts! And write up all my holiday reading reviews, because while I’ve only read 2 books and listened to 2 1/2 books while at home, I’ve hidden a hot-country-nothing-to do-but-read holiday in this month too, so there’s book updating and reviews from that to be dealt with. I also want to read some or ALL of my book box books this month. It’s all well and good collecting them and showing everyone I have them but I really need to read them too. Also I need to try and fit in some pop sugar titles because so far I’ve just been reading and then squishing what I’ve read that fits the criteria into the list. I need to actively look at the one’s I’ve noted down to complete it or I have no hope of even getting close.

Ms4Tune: Again:
1. Finish 3 Netgalley books.
2. Continue my Popsugar Challenge (I won’t aim for a number it will only go wrong)
3. Finish another Series
4. Finish a few books towards my A-Z Authors Challenge.

Did you complete this month’s targets?

Paein: Yeah…no. Not even a little bit. Still working on THE SAME series I started last month. But basically we’re a family of hoarders (doesn’t count if it’s books) and this month it was time-to-clear-out-the-garage month and it’s taken pretty much the whole month…I DID start listening to audio books though which was a personal book challenge and not one I’d put on here yet – and that was more due to necessity because 2 books don’t generate a months worth of reviews (Neither does 5, but hey – we have feature posts covering for us, you may have noticed…)

Ms4Tune:
1. I just about managed 3 Netgalley books. But it was a real push.
The Flame Never Dies ghostly echoes The Secret City
2. I totally failed at getting to 28 on my Popsugar Challenge but I’m half way through Magician as my over 600 pages book
and I’ve just started The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie as my 20th Century Classic but I’ve read none others.
3. I did finish a couple of series though: The Stars Never Rise/ Well of Souls and technically Harry Potter… again.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?

Paein: I am once again in love with glitter and this time it’s 97% Magnus Bane’s fault.
I’m quite annoyed that I didn’t get to build up my book count this month too, as I usually use the summer to burn through books I need to read. I also wanted to get my shelves finished off. Stupid garage.

Ms4Tune: Well I got my Illumicrate and my Fairyloot boxes. I made pimms sorbet and peanut butter icecream which I may share with you at some point.
And I also got some new badges on Netgalley – My collection now looks like this:
