1 Lie to Me

This was a fantastic TV show and I’m so sad they only made 3 series. It’s based off of a psychologist called Paul Ekman and his work with what is called micro expressions – the tiny involuntary movements of our face and body when we’re feeling something. ( I have one of his books on my too read pile because body language is fascinating! Surprise! haha) The TV show follows Dr. Cal Lightman and his partner Dr. Gillian Foster as well as their ‘intern’ Loker and their brand new ‘natural’ Torres as they’re called to consult on various crimes and cases for the FBI or situations for people who can pay. They study the body language and motives of people and can accurately guess if the suspect is the murderer or the bomber or if they are cheating on their wife. Obviously there’s sub plots and intrigue and Cal is a brash British man whose banned from the whole of Vegas. Can you guess why? The Intro is fantastic too and features a brilliant song by Ryan Star called Brand New Day. Series 1 has to be my favourite because it slows down when there’s a reaction to notice. But beware! Binge watching this show can cause you to start picking up on these mini tells…

2 Lucifer

I’ve only seen the first half of the first series (This better run forever) of this but I’m already in love. I’ve been hooked since the trailer first hit the internet. Fed up of being everyone’s scapegoat, Lucifer has left hell for a holiday, but when a woman he encouraged to sort herself out is gunned down, he attaches himself to the police officer investigating and starts using his charms to help her with her cases. Tom Ellis plays a fantastic Lucifer. British, frank and completely unapologetic, he takes great delight in encouraging people to follow their hearts desire and great offence to those truly nasty people who cross his path. I’m not religious and I’m by no means an expert in the deep dynamics of the angels but this seems to match up quite nicely with what I do know from christianity and satanism (which is about being selfish and not being rude and NOT about murdering people or animals.)  He’s quite frank about who he is but Chloe Decker, the police officer, doesn’t believe him. Of course. I can’t wait to see where this is going, I require these on DVD…

3 M*A*S*H

MASH ran from 1972 – 1983 and lasted much longer then the war it was set in, the Vietnam war. It focuses on the members of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. The star of the whole series is Captian Benjamin ‘Hawkeye’ Pierce and his bunk buddy, first Trapper John McIntyre then later B. J. Hunnicutt and their shinanigins as they try to survive the war, bunked with an idiot first Frank Burns then later Charles Emerson Winchester III. I own a fancy box set and I used to regularly watch these, there are so many hilaious and witty lines (“You disgust me!” “Yeah, Frank, we discused you and you’re disgusting!”). They don’t agree with the war, Hawkeye and Trapper/BJ, but they’re there and they’re doctors and they’re going to save each life they can but the only way they seem able to get through life in the mean time is to distill gin and play pranks, as well as teach and learn important lessons. I have so much TV to catch up on right now, but one day I’ll get to watch some of these again!

4 Agent Carter

I realise that this is the third american show with a British lead that’s on my list, but it’s perhaps just a tiny bit better than Lie to me just as spectacular as Lucifer. When I grow up I want to be Peggy Carter. She rolls her eyes at the drama of men and just gets on with it. If they tell her she can’t possibly do that, she goes and does it anyway and then they realise she was actually onto something and sort of apologise while taking the credit. I’m so angry that they’ve cancelled it because I think she may just be my favourite marvel Superhero. Despite being set just after the second world war, it’s surprising how many of the ‘archaic’ viewpoints are actually still accurate today. I love her fighting style, she just uses anything to hand and the chemistry she has with Daniel was fantastic. I wanted to learn how she got into creating SHIELD, though I think that might be touched on in Agents of SHIELD so I may have to give that another go sometime.

5 Doctor Who

I’m a ‘new’ Doctor Who fan. I started watching when it came back onto TV with Rose and Nine (NEVER SKIP NINE!!!) and I’ve not looked back since. In more ways than one! I’ve gone no further back than Eight’s film. Sorry die-hard fans, but I’m just too scared I’ll not like them because of the ‘special effects’ and I really don’t want to be that person. I have seen the very first episode Ever! But that’s pretty much it. I can’t even begin to put into words everything I love about this show but I’m certainly going to try. I LOVE the lessons The Doctor teaches and I love his LINES! They are superb. Eleven is my Doctor, I loved his enthusiasm and his excitement and how it hid the deep dark pain he suffered. His lines will always be my favourite I think. I also love River Song and her entire story line from end to start to middle. I love it because it’s weird and it makes you think. And of course the lines. I used to collect quotes in A4 notebooks and they were pretty much full of MASH and Doctor Who lines. “Nobody important? Blimey, that’s amazing. You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I’ve never met anybody who wasn’t important before.”
Where do I stand with 12? Well he’s not 11 and his lines have been terrible (barring his first episode), but since the Zygon episodes he’s been getting better and in the end I will probably be sad to see him go. Who do I want as the next Doctor? Rupert Grint! Because I think his Doctor might be something like 11′s, but also because then the Doctor would finally be ginger.

6 The Shannara Chronicles

I haven’t read the book this is based on so I don’t know if it’s comparable. All I know is I love it! The Shannara Chronicles has an amazing cast, has probably some of the most impressive CGI I’ve ever seen and don’t even get me started on costumes! The plot is basically An Elvish tree, known as the Ellcrys, is dying. The legend of the Tree is that it holds the Demon’s in their own world, preventing them from destroying our world. But with the Ellcrys dying the demons are starting to appear. The only people/elves who can save the world are Wil, Amberle and Eretria. They must travel across the Four Lands in search of the lost magic in order to resurrect the tree. This story was awesome, I literally couldn’t wait for the next episode each week. I loved all the little hints that this was once our world but it is now run by the elves. It’s basically perfect. lol. I’m SOOO excited to hear that they are definitely doing a second series. (They’re filming right now!)

7 Containment

This is a new series and I’m loving it! It’s all about a virus that’s kills all the people it infects. It’s passed through contact and basically the government decide to contain it by fencing off the infected zone. No one in, no one out. Families and friends find themselves divided and it’s hard to keep everyone calm on both sides. The concept is scary as hell and I spend most of the time jumping or shouting at the characters not to touch!

It has a really amazing cast. My favourite characters are Lex (the Major) who is the face of the authorities on the outside but literally has no control of anything, Jake (Lex’s friend) who is a policemen stuck on the inside, and Katie a teacher who is stuck on the inside with a group of children on a field trip. I love watching the relationship between Jake and Katie grow and it’s so frustrating because they have so much sexual chemistry and can’t touch at all!!!

I also love this song because of this series : Battlefield by Svrcina

8 Supernatural

Supernatural is my go to Binge watch! I could watch this all day every day! I will never stop loving these guys. Dean, Sam and Cas are life itself. I’m keeping up to date here in the UK but I’ve started to reminisce on the olden days. I even watched a few of the first series again, and it made me so sad to realise how innocent they were and how much they have changed! I miss the boys dating people, miss Dean flirting with every girl, I miss Bobby and Kevin. I hadn’t realised how dark and depressing it had started to get. I hope we find something for the boys to be happy about soon. I miss their goofy grins.

9 Sing It On

This is my guilty pleasure. I bet not many people have heard of this series let alone watched it. Sing It On follows the real life stories of a number of A Capella groups in America as they compete to win the ICCA Finals. It’s so OTT and lots of exaggerated arm movements and crying and screaming and OMG I just love the drama. I laughed so much and got all teary towards the end. These kids are talented and I loved watching the rehearsals as well as the competitions. I discovered some amazing songs through this series, Surrender by Cash Cash is now permanently on my playlist. Although, now there are certain songs I never want to hear again (*cough* Bang, Bang). This year has now finished but I do hope there will be another series next year.

10 Great British Bake Off

It’s back! I have baking fever all over again! I love this time of year cos all the best reality tv shows come back. I just love watching other people mess up in the kitchen just as much as I do, but more importantly I love watching them succeed and create amazing pieces that make me want to get my food mixer out and start baking all over again! I literally can’t get enough of this programme, so much so that I have to watch the An Extra Slice programme on the Friday! I also loved, The Chronicles of Nadiya! Come on who doesn’t think that is a bloody brilliant title? Nadiya is one of my all time favourite GBBO winners and I loved watching her exploring her heritage. She is sooo amazing!
