The Blue Sword

by Robin McKinley

Oh man, I loved this story so much! It was such a surprise as I didn’t like most of the other books of hers I’d read before this, but this was just fantastic. Deserts and kings and enchanted swords and a Lady who just shrugged and went off on her own adventure. Fantastic.

2 The Will of the Empress

by Tamora Pierce

While I love the first book in this world so much, where they meet and ‘forge’ as a family, I’ve chosen this book for this list for a few reasons. They’re older and they’re having to deal with the world on their own now without their teachers which is pretty interesting. Except they dont NEED to be alone., they just need to reconnect as a family and when they do it’s just amazing. I always read it with such a big grin on my face because they cover each other’s weak spots and if they were ever truly pushed I think they’d be a phenomenon and I’m kind of just waiting for that to happen. (Unfortunately the book after this was the exact oposite. It’s set before this one and yet all of the things mentioned in this book about that adventure aren’t in that adventure…)

3 The Rose and the Dagger

by Renee Ahdieh

So this is a book 2, but I had to include it because everything I wanted from a fantasy romance was in this half of the duology. The journey to the end, the growth of the characters it was all just perfect.

4 Winner’s Curse

by Marie Rutkoski

This is a heart breaker. The whole series is a heart breaker to be honest, it get so much worse after this book and also so much better! Kestrel has always been able to out think everyone around her, but she can’t read Arin. Then things go wonky when she takes on the capital and doesn’t quite win…Still not 1000% sure how I feel about the last book, maybe because it was not at all what I was expecting. A fantastic bittersweet adventure.

5 The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

by Holly Black

Only JUST fantasy by the skin of it’s teeth (or quite firmly fantasy because it’s clearly not fact…) I HAD to include this one because if I only got to have one book for the rest of forever this might just be the one I chose (contender #2 is The False Prince, but that’s part of a series…). This is the story of a girl who offered help to a vampire and what happens when he gives in to his curiosity and goes with her to see what she’ll do next. He’s a little bit crazy and she’s a little bit sane and the world has gone to hell in a hand basket and it’s really fabulous. [And in case you're wondering, I'm hoping for the ending that he answers her last question with]

forbidden game Hunger Games six of crows mortHB smoke and bone

6 The Forbidden Game Trilogy

by L J Smith

One of my all time favourite series by L J Smith. This series was hauntingly good and Julian was my first ever ‘bad-boy’ crush. I loved him so much.

7 The Hunger Games Trilogy

by Suzanne Collins

I stopped reading for quite a long time in my late teens – early twenties. Thanks to books like these I refound my love of reading and I’ve never looked back.

8 Six of Crows

by Leigh Bardugo

This was my most favourite book of 2015 and I can not wait for book two, Crooked Kingdoms to be released this month. I’m dying to dive back into this amazing fantasy world! It was amazing.

9 Mort / Wyrd Sisters

by Sir Terry Pratchett

Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels are beyond amazing. I love the satirical nature of the whole thing, and that Pratchett’s sense of humour just pours of every page. Mort and Wyrd Sisters are two of my favourites and because I can’t choose between them I decided just to put them both on the list.

10 Daughter of Smoke and Bone

by Laini Taylor

This book, This book! I’ve never been so enchanted, so absorbed, so in love and so heartbroken! Everything about this book was amazing and if I could just read book 1 on repeat and forget that it ever had to end I would.
