Sum it up Sunday – October 2016

pamsumitup

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Paein: I’m reading Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo but I’m also reading The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher

Ms4Tune: I’m sort of reading Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and sort of reading Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery.
I really like the Six of Crows series but my attention span is like non existent at the moment. I started Jenny Colgans new book just to see if a different genre would help.

What was your favourite book this month?

Paein: Probably The Girl in 6E by A.R.Torre

Ms4Tune:Well this is easy
: Hunter by Sarai Henderson

What was your least favourite book this month?

Paein: Unfortunately Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell. I was so looking forward to it and then it just flopped. Not just because of all the things that were wrong about England, but also because the super clever MC was doing stupid things early on.

dear killer

Ms4Tune: That would also be:
Hunter by Sarai Henderson because I read one book this month. ONE BOOK!

Hunter

What do you want to read next?

Paein: some book box books, because I’m running out of room for them on my shelf! Maybe I’ll start at the beginning with When We Collided by Emery Lord or The Witch’s Kiss by Katherine and Elizabeth Corr.

When We Collidedthe witchs kiss

Ms4Tune: I don’t know preferably something. I need help guys! Please send me suggestions of great books so I can get out of this reading slump!

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

Paein:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them original Screenplay by J.K.Rowling, Bright Smoke, Cold Fire by Rosamund Hodge and An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld by Cassandra Clare.

Ms4Tune: I currently have nothing on order which probably doesn’t help. But I should be getting an Illumicrate this month…

How are your challenges going?

Paein: I had a bad month, actually I’ve had a bad few months, I had a little bit of an ill building up. I’ve read 7 books this month and I totally cheated with that – 4 of them were e-books of under or around or just over 100 pages! I’m feeling TONS better now to be honest with you, but it’s NaNo (National Novel Writing Month) and I’m participating again! Thought it would help get me writing again, but that means my challenges will take a hit next month too and then it will be crazy December….

Ms4Tune: Pah… well as I said I read one book. It wasn’t for any of my challenges. So yes… these are not going well.

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

Paein: Read actual books, though I’m reading another short kindle book right now…

Ms4Tune: Read?

Did you complete this month’s targets?

Paein: No. I know I’m not going to complete my popsugar challenge so I’m not even trying which is annoying. I still want to read all the books, so maybe I’ll just keep going with the challenge next year. I never completed the last one either. Generally things go better when I can pick the book I want to read next…

Ms4Tune: Nope not at all. I have a pile of TBR books and a pile of Netgalley ARCs. I guess I’ll just have to try harder in the next few months.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?

Paein: This month I got a fairyloot box,

instead of Ms4Tune because the theme was STEAMPUNK and it’s more my thing than hers. I have to say it’s been one of the best boxes I’ve ever received! I also got the other two the same day which was fantastic! They were pretty good too. I will be doing book stuff Sundays for them soon!

Ms4Tune: We went to the book fair and I got a huge pile of awesome sci-fi and fantasy books. I kinda want to read them right now and just avoid reading my challenge books as I think that’s why I’ve fallen into a hole. I just don’t have the motivation to read any of my popsugar choices or my ARCs. That’s pretty bad.
