Wires and Nerve clockwork Angel manga black butler 1 the crow comic the man in the moon

1 Wires and Nerve

by Marissa Meyer, Douglas Holgate

I’m not nearly ready to have The Lunar Chronicles finish, so the fact the storyline continues in Wires and Nerve is exciting! Less exciting because it’s focus is Iko and not one of my more favourite characters, but I’m sure they’ll stop in! Also Iko is 500% sass so you know it’s going to be fabulous.

In her first graphic novel, #1 New York Times and USA Today bestseller Marissa Meyer follows Iko, the beloved android from the Lunar Chronicles, on a dangerous and romantic new adventure — with a little help from Cinder and the Lunar team.

In her first graphic novel, bestselling author Marissa Meyer extends the world of the Lunar Chronicles with a brand-new, action-packed story about Iko, the android with a heart of (mechanized) gold. When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten the tenuous peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko takes it upon herself to hunt down the soldiers’ leader. She is soon working with a handsome royal guard who forces her to question everything she knows about love, loyalty, and her own humanity. With appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a must-have for fans of the bestselling series.

2 The Infernal Devices Manga

by Cassandra Clare

I’m desperate to read these and I have no idea why. Need to read the books first though!

Tessa Gray thought her journey to London would be the beginning of a new life, but she never could have envisioned the dark turn that life would take… Abducted upon arrival, Tessa is introduced to London’s Downworld, the sordid supernatural underbelly of the city, and informed that her future will be recast to service a man known as “The Magister”. Only the intervention of the London Institute’s Shadowhunters delivers the girl from this fate, but sinister forces are still gathering around Tessa. Even so, Tessa’s attraction to two of the young Shadowhunters who have taken her under their wings may prove more dangerous by far…

3 Black Butler

by Yana Toboso,

I’ve read the first one before but I had a manga cull and I think I got rid of it. I wont be reading this soon – it seems to be ongoing still and it’s at 25! I have watched the live action film – which they changed A LOT of – which is something I knew from having only read the one book – but by the time it reached that far into the film I was already sold because Sebastian the demon butler fights with butter knives. BUTTER KNIVES!! I need that to be in the manga, then I’ll follow it pretty much anywhere…

In the Victorian ages of London The Earl of the Phantomhive house, Ciel Phantomhive, needs to get his revenge on those who had humiliated him and destroyed what he loved. Not being able to do it alone he sells his soul to a demon he names Sebastian Michaelis. Now working as his butler, Sebastian must help the Earl Phantomhive in this suspenseful, exciting, thriller manga.

4 The Crow

by James O’Barr

I love The Crow films, they’re sad and fantastic and beautiful and not – as I’ve often had to say to people – horror films. 2-4 aren’t remakes either! They’re devistating love stories which makes complete sense when you learn the story behind the original idea, which is this comic. I really need to read this comic, it’s a massive failing that I haven’t yet.

When James O’Barr poured the pain and anguish of a personal tragedy into the drawings that comprise The Crow, his intensely cathartic story of Eric—who returns from the dead to avenge his and his fiancÉe’s murder at the hands of a street gang—resonated with readers around the world. Now, the illustrated tale that became the “thrilling” (Los Angeles Daily News) and “spectacular” (Chicago Tribune) screen triumph is re-released in an expanded version the author originally intended, complete at last with:

Thirty pages of never-before-seen artwork, including a new closing segment, “Sparklehorse,” and the touching new scene, “An August Noel”

A new Introduction by James O’Barr

Lost sequences restored using the artist’s original technique

This is The Crow like you’ve never seen it before—the powerful journey of an avenging angel and a celebration of true love . . . as fierce, intelligent, and unforgettable as when it was first conceived.

Suggested for mature readers.

5 The Man in the Moon

by William Joyce

I love Rise of the Guardians and I needed all the books! I have quite a few, including this one but I haven’t read it yet! I think I was going to wait until all the novels were out so that I could binge…

Up there in the sky.
Don’t you see him?
No, not the moon.
The Man in the Moon.

He wasn’t always a man.
Nor was he always on the moon.

He was once a child.
Like you.
Until a battle,
a shooting star,
and a lost balloon
led him on a quest.

Meet the very first
Guardian of Childhood.
MiM, the Man in the Moon.

Delilah Dirk 1 Shadow Hero Baba Yaga ms Marvel Saga

6 Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant

I really liked the sound of Delilah Dirk. I liked that she was described as ‘a little bit TinTin, a little bit Indiana Jones…’ I actually discovered number 2 first but I thought I might as well start at the beginning.

Lovable ne’er-do-well Delilah Dirk has travelled to Japan, Indonesia, France, and even the New World. Using the skills she’s picked up on the way, Delilah’s adventures continue as she plots to rob a rich and corrupt Sultan in Constantinople. With the aid of her flying boat and her newfound friend, Selim, she evades the Sultan’s guards, leaves angry pirates in the dust, and fights her way through the countryside. For Delilah, one adventure leads to the next in this thrilling and funny installment in her exciting life.

7 The Shadow Hero

A few of the people I follow praised this highly so I’m kinda excited to see what it’s all about. I love the old school cover design too.

The Shadow Hero is based on golden-age comic series The Green Turtle, whose hero solved crimes and fought injustice just like any other comics hero. But this mysterious masked crusader was hiding more than your run-of-the-mill secret identity…The Green Turtle was the first Asian American superhero.

Now, exactly seventy years later, New York Times-bestselling author Gene Luen Yang has revived this nearly forgotten, pioneering character in a new graphic novel that creates an origin story for the golden-age Green Turtle.

8 Baba Yaga’s Assistant

I know very little of Baba Yaga but I keep seeing it referenced everywhere at the moment. This looks and sounds spooky and I’d love to read it.

ASSISTANT WANTED ASAP
Must have skills in hauling, obeying orders, cooking, and cleaning. Magical talent a bonus. Must be good with heights. Enter Baba Yaga’s house to apply.

Most children think twice before braving a haunted wood filled with terrifying beasties to match wits with a witch, but not Masha. Her beloved grandma taught her many things: that stories are useful, that magic is fickle, and that nothing is too difficult or too dirty to clean. The fearsome witch of folklore needs an assistant, and Masha needs an adventure. She may be clever enough to enter Baba Yaga’s house on chicken legs, but within its walls, deceit is the rule. To earn her place, Masha must pass a series of tests, outfox a territorial bear, and make dinner for her host. No easy task, with children on the menu!

9 Ms Marvel

A female from Marvel Comics?! Yes please. :) I want to read all Marvel comics but this series has been absolutely everywhere recently so I’d love to start with this one.

Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City — until she’s suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm! When Kamala discovers the dangers of her newfound powers, she unlocks a secret behind them, as well. Is Kamala ready to wield these immense new gifts? Or will the weight of the legacy before her be too much to bear? Kamala has no idea, either. But she’s comin’ for you, Jersey!

10 Saga

This is another series that I’ve seen around so much I can’t help but be intrigued by. Out of this whole list, this is probably the one I most want to read.

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe.

From bestselling writer Brian K. Vaughan, Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive drama for adults.

Ms. Marvel is definitely an enjoyable series – and I was beyond happy to see we were following both a woman AND that’s she’s a POC. Anyway, totally recommend it!
