Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.
What are you reading right now?
Paein:
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
My third blue book I hope to finish it today!
Ms4Tune:
Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick
This is my choice for The Uppercase Reading Challenge: A book outside your typical genre.
I don’t usually read non-fiction. I don’t actually remember the last time I did actually…
What was your favourite book this month?
Paein:
The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman
I couldn’t stop thinking about it once I’d finished it and I’m so excited for book 2 next month!
Ms4Tune:
I have had such a great month with nearly all of the books I read getting 5 Voodoos
but I think the one that stands out for me the most was:
Salt To The Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Wonderfully powerful, had me gripped from the beginning and I ended up doing a lot of research into the actual history of this particular disaster. I think that’s what readings all about, if you need to delve deeper because you can’t stop thinking about something then that’s the sign of a great story.
What was your least favourite book this month?
Paein:
Storm Siren by Mary Weber
I gave it 4 Voodoos and I hope to continue the series but it rated lowest so far this month and it was mostly to do with the editing issues.
Ms4Tune:
Based on my ratings alone, I’m sad to say:
Freeks by Amanda Hocking
I really enjoyed this story but it was up against tough competition this month.
It still got 4 Voodoos from me though.
What do you want to read next?
Paein:
I’m hoping for a quick re-read of Truthwitch by Susan Dennard while still in the Blue Month so that I can get on with Windwitch in Feb!
I’d also love to have time for Pride and Prejudice now that I have my super lovely leather bound copy I’m just so excited about it!
Ms4Tune:
I’m hoping to squeeze at least one more Blue book in before the official end of this month,
especially because I want to read The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielsen next.
What books are you hoping to collect next month?
Paein:
I hope to collect the same as Ms4Tune! And what ever else is in my book boxes.
I also have 3 books on long term order that all say they will be arriving in Feb so we’ll see how that goes too!
Aww I almost forgot Dawn Study by Maria v Snyder. Can’t wait for the conclusion to this story.
Ms4Tune:
This year I plan to only buy books that continue series’ I’m reading.
I don’t have much spare cash these days so I need to make sacrifices.
But this months purchases will be:
Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton and The Dark Days Pact by Alison Goodman
How are your challenges going?
Paein:
1. Uppercase Reading Challenge: Currently I’ve read 2/12 for this challenge
2.Cover Colour Challenge: So far this month I have read 2 Blue Books
My current read will add another to each list though. Plus I hope to get another blue book in!
Ms4Tune:
1. Uppercase Reading Challenge: Currently I’ve read 3/12 for this challenge
but after I’ve finished Scrappy Little Nobody and hopefully The False Prince I will be up to 5.
2. Cover Colour Challenge: So far this month I have read 5 Blue Books
but again if I can squeeze in the two mentioned above, that will be 7.
Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?
Paein:
Next month I will read one of this months book box books.
Or possibly last months, I’m not sure to stand on spoilers…I try hard not to spill any but I still find them all over the internet anyway
Read more. I’ve gone from cramming in crappy books to barely reading. I guess I need to re-find my enjoyment of it.
Ms4Tune:
I’d like to read more.
I’ve started to get into a routine and it’s really helping with all areas of my life
so hopefully next month I’ll have read more books than this month.
Did you complete this month’s targets?
Paein:
We changed our post pattern so I haven’t had to panic about reading which has been nice.
I haven’t truly worried about posts and it’s a load of and while the book I’m reading right now is a little forced, I’ve been enjoying the other books I’ve read so yes!
Ms4Tune:
The only target I set was to read more for enjoyment and I think that was successful because the books
I did read were really good and I gave them all 4 or 5 voodoos. So I see that as a win.
Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?
Paein:
Leatherbound classics!! So excited about these! I haven’t even read them, but I do know I like the storylines to some of them so eh. It’s a gamble but they look so pretty!
I’m also over 90 followers on Instagram and it’s pretty fantastic!
Ms4Tune:
I’m going to attempt an audiobook next month.
It will be the first time since I was a child sooo fingers crossed I will join the re-converted.
I’m starting with Dark Matter by Blake Crouch which I found in the library.
I love the Grisha series!! And I’m so glad you loved Salt to the Sea. That made it into my favorites from 2016. Dark Matter is a fascinating book and was so much fun to read. Hope you enjoy it!
