Darkness never dies. Alina and Mal are on the run. Hunted and haunted, but together at last, they can’t outrun Alina’s past or her destiny forever. The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and he needs Alina to realise his dangerous plan. There are others who would like to use Alina’s gift too. And as her power grows, somehow, she must choose between her country, her power, and her love – or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm. Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance. Perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore and Laini Taylor.

Well, that’s different! I wasn’t expecting that, but now that I know, I can see it on the covers. I can’t tell you what I mean, but it’s something were were told couldn’t happen in book 1. Also, the ending was a surprise…

I think I liked this more than book 1, perhaps because I didn’t wait for ages in the middle of the book before continuing…I’m certainly thinking of the storyline more than I did after the first and I’m quite looking forward to reading the next one where as with this one I’ve left it to the very end of the month!

I’m definitely not a Mal fan, I mean it was perfectly fine for HER to have to completely chance and follow him around like a lost lamb but “That’s just not who I am Alina.” (not actual quote…) I sort of resent him as our love interest but she’s continuously choosing him despite continuously noticing how handsome everyone else is…which is somewhat frustrating. Why is she annoyed at handsomeness?!
His attitude is bothersome too. Is he scared of her? Or just annoyed that she’s the focus instead of him for once?
I was pretty please with him at the start of the book, but that was when things were going his way – and honestly they were idiots. What an obvious trail. Sheesh.

I LOVED the introduction to the prince. He’s fantastic! I’d love for him to have been the love interest, but I really don’t know how I’d feel about switching now. Besides the focus isn’t the romance here, no matter how much it seems to try to be. The prince has some fantastic lines and that’s just the way to win me over. He reminds me of The Doctor from Doctor Who too with his frankly brilliant oneliners. Hopefully he’ll be turning up again soon. He’s just what this world needs.
He also gives fantastic advice! Which Alina doesn’t quite follow. She should be watching him and taking it all on board. Instead she seems to be half listening and combining it with the Darklings way of doing things.

Speaking of the Darkling….such a disappointment…
