1 Nightworld Books

by L J Smith

Short books

These are little and fantastic and if you’re revisiting them you can get read in one evening! I know this because I did it by accident the other day. If they’re new to you then you may need to take a little longer and get a feel for the world. And they’re recently had a makeover in hardback so I’ll be re-reading some more as they turn up at my door! Unfortunately they’re american editions and so have the wrong name for book 3 but you can’t have everything.

2 The Rose and The Dagger

by Renee Ahdieh

Read the day away

This is a difficult classification, because it’s your favourite books that you can consume in one day. I can only put in books here that I’ve read in a day…This is a book 2 and I just HAD to know how it finished. It’s marked as 2 days on goodreads, but that’s probably two evenings after work to get it read and I think that counts. I love this duology and I’m looking forward to re-reading it sometime in the future when I’ve forgotten most of the details. Hopefully that’s soon…

3 Manga

Short on time

Manga are easy to read as most of the information taken in is from a picture and that process is so much quicker than reading the same thing in words. you can finish one in an hour depending on how long you look at the pictures and think about it all. They are serial however and can often cover over 20 books! I haven’t read any in a while and I need to pull out my super packed shelf and see what’s at the back! I can’t remember…

Some of my favourites include:

Mars, by Fuyumi Soryo 15 volumes
Sailor Moon, by Naoko Takeuchi 12 volumes
V.B. Rose, by Banri Hidaka 14 Volumes but only 12 were available, 12 is a fantastic end so I’m ok with that
 by Kyousuke Motomi 2 volumes

4 The Chronicles of Narnia

by C.S. Lewis

Short books

These are also quite short like the nightworld books but you get a good adventure in too. I dont think you’d fit a few into an evening, even of a return visit, but they could be two nighters for those short on time. Many people know the story even if they haven’t read them so that will help speed things along nicely!

5 Poison Study

by Maria V Snyder

Read the day away

I can read the books of this series in a day. That’s a day each, not ALL in one day…
I find them entertaining and well paced. I tend to be slower on the new ones – I savour them. I have one left and I’m saving it up, I intend to read the entire series through from start to finish! So, that’ll take me about a week and a half of Holiday time I’m guessing because you CANNOT miss out the Glass series in the middle. Better wait for the summer…

6 A Darker Shade of Magic

by V E Schwab

This may be considered a long book at 400 pages but once I started reading it I found I just couldn’t stop. My two hours of reading on a Saturday morning turned into an all day reading marathon. It was wonderful, it was perfect and I bet I’m not the only one who read this in one sitting.

7 Girl from Above: Betrayal

by Pippa DaCosta

Girl from Above is a sci-fi story that’s bascially split down into Novella type books. The first book, Betrayal is only 175 pages long but was really entertaining. I devoured it in a couple of hours.

8 Rend the Dark

by Mark Gelineau and Joe King

Another Novella series, easy to consume in a few hours. These are really short but really pack a punch. I was really impressed with how great these short stories by Mark and Joe were. Rend the Dark was definitely my favourite mini series by them.

9 It Ends With Us

by Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us was just sooo emotionally charged that I couldn’t find a good place to stop. I just had to keep reading and reading and reading until I knew the whole story! What a powerful story.

10 The Canteville Ghost

by Oscar Wilde

I don’t read many classics but sometimes I want something different. The Canteville Ghost was definitely that. At only 69 pages it really leant itself to being read in one sitting but it was its humour that made it easy to want to read in one sitting. If you haven’t read it I would definitely recommend it!
