Musing Monday

It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from The Purple Booker!

Please note that Musing Monday has moved from Books and a Beat.

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

I’m really excited to tell you about:

the fact that I have finally finished a book!

It’s been about a month since I last finished a book, which seems like such a long time for me. I usually read one or two books a week but recently I’ve been really struggling to just find the concentration necessary to get into a book.

So what book did I read? Well I finally picked up Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I read Anna and the French Kiss (Book 1) back in 2012 and loved it so much that I proceeded to recommend and lend it to as many different people as I could. I even went out and bought Lola and the Boy Next Door in 2013 expecting to get stuck straight in but I never did. Instead it’s sat on my bookshelf for the last 4 years and I regret it now. I really loved this book and I can’t wait to read book 3. I’m going to read Isla and the Happily Ever After next month. That’s not a hopeful declaration that’s a definitive fact. I will read it because I don’t want to regret not reading Book 3 sooner either.

LAST WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you post book reviews right after you finish the book? Or do you wait a while so you can fully digest it before posting a review?

I always aim to write my reviews straight after finishing them because otherwise I struggle to remember what I thought. Sometimes I forget that and think I need a few days to digest before I start reviewing and I always regret it. Some books I can’t review at all because I can never find the right words to explain how much I loved them. That’s why many of my favourite books will never be reviewed. A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Schwab’s for example… I also struggle with books I found were really bad because someone has put time and love into writing it and I hate to be so negative. It’s easier when it’s well written but I just didn’t enjoy it or if I did enjoy it but there were flaws in the way it was written or handled. Those reviews I find a lot easier.

How about you?
