Musing Monday

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from The Purple Booker!

Please note that Musing Monday has moved from Books and a Beat.

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…
Up next, I think I’ll read…

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi! It finally turned up and I don’t think I need to re-read The Star-Touched Queen for this one to make sense so I’m just going to delve right in!

a crown of wishes

We’re going to be a week behind each musing monday as we sadly can’t post on the day anymore but we’re loving the random questions and we will try and get round everyone’s posts when we can!

LAST WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Are there any songs that make you think of certain books or scenes from books? If so, which songs/books?

Oooh, I like this question! I’m sure we’ve had one or two Top Ten Tuesdays with a similar theme too.

The one that always sticks in mind is the The War Inside by Switchfoot /Prince of thorns by Mark Lawrence combo. I forget why they gel so well in my mind, I really do need to re-read the first book and finish the series! There’s also the Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paloma Faith/ Winners Curse Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski mix too. That song is more for Kestrel/Arin than the whole series, but as the series is about them it goes. The most recent one is Can’t Shake You by Gloriana and it really made me think of Magnus Bane/Alec Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments. I haven’t got to their ‘bust up’ yet, but they’ve had some rocky patches and this song just seemed to really go with Magnus’s way of thinking about it all.

It’s been some time since I did it seriously, but like Ambrosia I listen to songs when I write. Usually specific songs rather than playlists though, songs that feel like individual situations or characters. I used to do this when I drew characters too. Find one or two songs that was simply them and repeat said songs till I was done. This even worked spectacularly well with characters that weren’t my own, much to my surprise.
I don’t usually like to listen to music when I’m reading. I have music as a background noise to much of my life, but when I’m reading it just bothers me and I can’t concentrate. Which is odd because usually it helps me focus!

Do you have any book/song combos? I’d love to know your favourites!
