Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Unique Sounding Books On Our TBR

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Unique Sounding Books On Our TBR

Paein

Some of these have been on my TBR shelf so long I’ve forgotten what they’re about

replica cooking with bones illuminae the hundred year old man antigoddess

1 Replica

by Lauren Oliver

This one sounds unique because it’s one story, but then you flip it over and it’s another! There seems to be no correct way to read this either. You can read one side then the other, you can alternate chapters…I just don’t know what I’ll do when I get to reading it! I want to try it all the different ways! But there can be only one time. Unless your name is Holly and you’re an on-board computer….

2 Cooking With Bones

by Jess Richards

No, this is not a book about broth. Sounds like it should be though, right? It has a lovely, creepy cover too and is actually about a girl whose sister looks like you want her to look. That could also be creepy…

3 Illuminae

by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Have you looked inside this book? What’s going on? That’s not a book book! I’m so confused, I think I’ll have trouble with this a little…unless it books up further in. This is a pretty unique layout for book to my way of thinking.

4 The hundred year old man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared

by Jonas Jonasson & Rod Bradbury (Translator)

What? Where’s he gone?! This is translated from Swedish! I never realised! The title makes me thing of Water for Elephants a little bit, but only because it starts off with an old man. I dont think I’ve read a book about an old man going off on adventures before.

5 AntiGoddess

by Kendare Blake

Often books are about teenagers who find out they’re actually demi-goddesses or something, so this sounds like it should be a fantastic change. *reads blurb* So it seems to be told from the point of view of Athena, that sounds different too!

The Condo board wild robot forest of teeth sacred minnow 2312

6 The Last Condo Board of the Apocalypse

by Nina Post

The title of this book sounds really unique even if it reminds me a bit of the Hitchhikers Guide. This was a recent add to my TBR pile because I saw the second book The Last Donut Shop of the Apocalypse on Netgalley and thought that sounds so unique I wanted to read it!

7 The Wild Robot

by Peter Brown

This illustrated Children’s book sounds so cute. I don’t think I’ve read anything like it so I’ll definitely be checking it out for my little one.

8 The Forest of Hands and Teeth

by Carrie Ryan

I’ve loved this title for ages! It sounds so fascinating. I hope the story is too.

9 The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly

by Stephanie Oakes

This novel sounds really unique. This bit of the blurb especially really grabbed me…

“The Kevinian cult has taken everything from seventeen-year-old Minnow: twelve years of her life, her family, her ability to trust. And when she rebelled, they took away her hands, too.”

I’ve never read a book about cults before and this sounds like an amazing psychological thriller.

10 2312

by Kim Stanley Robinson

This sci-fi novel sounds really unique. Apparently there are characters within this novel that you have no clue about their gender. Their names are gender neutral and their behaviour is gender neutral and I think that’s amazing. I’m interested in seeing whether the author is successful at pulling this off or not.

I have replica on my shelf too – but every time I go to pick it up, my brain goes into overdrive about house to read it because there are so many options, so I haven’t picked it up yet

THank you for letting me know! I hope to read Illuminae in October for our cover colour challenge because it’s orange! and I don’t have many orange books….
