There was a discussion on Instagram about the second side of the bookmark – the poem. “Not all those who wander are lost.” is a popular quote and Alexis asked whether we thought it should be included. A lot of people wished it wouldn’t be because it was everywhere and it was thought that everyone would have something with it on anyway. A different opinion which was also common (and also my own) was that that line is out of context on it’s own and really, the whole poem is great so I’m really pleased the whole first verse made it onto the bookmark;
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
As always, the bookmark is my favourite – but I’m devistated there’s no magnet! Still the washi tape and the coin are pretty fantastic! I’m still in awe that most of these things come from the imagination of one person! This month’s box will be a Sarah J Maas inspired box.
As is now custom, please click on my Instagram link in the right hand menu for a closer look at the items. We are working on updating the blog so that we can post an actual feed there, but life is a little busy right now!
One Off Box
So why was there a one off box? Well, turns out that spending her days hand lettering for boxes wasn’t enough for Alexis and so she went off and wrote a book too! Then she self published it and eventually even got some printed! You were able to pre-order the paperback in a box along with a few exclusive items made by Alexis too.
A double sided map poster
A double sided print
A double sided bookmark
A letter from Alexis
A signed paperback book
I didn’t read the kindle edition prior and there’s a possibility that if I Wasn’t on the out with kindle books I’d read that instead of this paperback to protect it’s perfect, signed condition! But never mind. In her letter Alexis explains that she chose to self publish so that she could keep the story the way she wanted it, without having to shoehorn in a love interest. I like love interests, there’s the hope that they’re going to be each others’ partners in crime, that they’re going to stick together and that they can be themselves. Even with stupid love interests I have this hope. But more than that, I’m pleased Alexis didn’t give in to the pressure, love interest only characters are boring and clearly Alexis has plans for the story, plus it’s not as simple as adding in a person, that changes everything. I can’t quite articulate myself here, but basically go Alexis!
On the back of the letter there was an alphabet for the elder script and a secret message was written inside some copies so you could translate it! And I’m really looking forward to reading this book – probably in October with it’s orange cover bits, it will be perfect for our colour cover challenge!!
