POINT HORRORS!

So for those of you who don’t know what Point Horror’s are, I will explain.

Point Horror was a series of young adult horror fictions published by Scholastic Inc in the 1990s.
There were numerous authors who published under this label, including well known authors, such as R L Stine and Christopher Pike.

I loved these when I was a teen! I have no idea why, because looking at some of the blurbs now they seem overally dramatic, cliched and therefore, very predictable. Most of the ones I have are about an American Teenage girl, she generally is trying to obtain something, like a boys attention, and somehow ends up in a situation that involves her being stalked or maimed or chased/trapped by a person/supernatural being. But hey my younger self hadn’t read all the amazing books I have now. So, at the time, these were the bees-knees!

How I remember these is like Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Mean Girls and the OC. Yes this may not be what other people would think of them if they were reading them now, but my nostalgic feelings for these is that powerful that I would put them in the same category as Buffy (which I also loved!)

Some of my favourites were:

Teachers Pet
Teacher’s Pet by Richie Tankersly Cusick – a story about a young american girl (Kate) who goes to a mystery story writing camp. Her teacher mysteriously disappears. Kate finds herself in the middle of a mystery and has to solve it (with the obvious help of an attractive male – Gideon).  To be honest I loved all of Richie Tankersley Cusick’s books.

Nightmare Hall - The Nightwalker nightmare Hall - the wish Nightmare Hall - The roommate
Any of Diane Hoh’s Nightmare Hall series. I would not go to this Campus after hearing all of these stories. In a way its very similar to how I would feel if I heard I was staying at the same place Jessica Fletcher was staying or accidentally found myself in Midsomer. So many people die! and yet people still go there! Why??? NOTE: Roommate blew my tiny teenage mind!

13againand one from the 13 again anthology – Foxgloves by Susan Price

TFGTHTFGTCTFGTK

L J Smith’s Forbidden Games trilogy was also published under the Point Horror banner and I am not afraid to say that these still remain one of my all time favourite reads! If you haven’t read this set yet, then I would definitely recommend it to you! (Go buy it now!)
