Musing Monday

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from The Purple Booker!

Please note that Musing Monday has moved from Books and a Beat.

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…
I’m Currently reading…

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld.

It’s a Pride and Prejudice retelling.
I haven’t yet found one I like but this has been better so far than first impressions lead me to believe – there are 181 chapters! And 512 pages.
It seemed a little dull at first but it’s caught my curiosity now so I’m committed to giving it a go.

We’re going to be a week behind each musing monday as we sadly can’t post on the day anymore but we’re loving the random questions and we will try and get round everyone’s posts when we can!

LAST WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Which ending of your favourite series did you truly enjoy but think the author ruined the ending?

Hmm. An interesting question. Also one that, for me, is hard to answer. If I don’t like the ending then I don’t like the series. but series I enjoyed before the endings?

There was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – I felt that the last book was out of character for Katniss and it spent a LOT of the book on a small time frame and then had years in a paragraph. I felt the film did it far better.

Divergent by Veronica Roth – I didn’t like how that ended…I assumed because of what happened,  but I’ve just reminded myself of another series with something similar and I still love that, so perhaps not. Which makes me feel a little better

Possibly Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell too, I feel that book missed the message it was going for with that ending. Though there is now a book 2 so maybe that will be resolved?!

I could maybe put The Song of the Lioness by Tammora Pierce on this list too. When I was younger I was devastated by who Alanna marries. I thought she should marry the other guy. But I don’t know if I’ve got used to the idea or now that I’m older I see better, but the couples make more sense to me now.

You could argue The Nightworld by LJ Smith too! Considering we’ve been waiting 20 years for a final book!
Still waiting….
