Sum it up Sunday – August 2017

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo! (Also some manga and I haven’t travelled much so I’m still on Dragonfly in Amber)

I seem to have started multiple books but finished none…
So right now I’m reading:
Days without End by Sebastian Barry
(I saw the man-booker prize long list and thought some of them sounded interesting so I’ve got some out of the library – this is one)
The Fairy Caravan by Beatrix Potter (Reading this one with Cas)
I’m still reading… The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco (I kinda forgot I was reading this one if I’m honest)
and When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon (I really am loving this one but I need time just to sit down and read)

What was your favourite book this month?

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff! Also
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

Nevernight eliza and her monsters

I only finished one book but I wouldn’t say it was necessarily my favourite…
I think When Dimple Met Rishi is going to be my favourite. It’s so easy to read.

What was your least favourite book this month?

Possibly The Taste of Blue Light by Lydia Ruffles – mainly because it wasn’t what I was hoping it was!

the taste of blue light

Again… May not have finished it but I think the reason for that is because me and Cas aren’t really enjoying it.
The Fairy Caravan is a little long.. the story is broken up into chapters and each chapter is its own sort of story but some are just really boring.
I’m stuck reading about sheep… and trying to remember all the voices for all the different sheep is exhausting.
The Guinea pigs were cute though.

What do you want to read next?

GODSGRAVEĀ by Jay Kristoff! is it the 7th yet??

God, anything really.
Maybe Wonderwoman by Leigh Bardugo? (love her writing)
Oh, but I should probably read Solar Bones by Mike McCormack so I can take it back to the library
It’s another Man-booker prize long list entry.

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

Godsgrave and Tower of Dawn. I have both coming in book boxes by Mark The Page and I can’t wait!

Erm… not sure. I’m really behind in what’s out at the moment.
I may do some browsing later if I get the chance between nappy changes and feeds :(

How are your challenges going?

I’ve nearly caught up with my goodreads challenge! I’m hardly any books behind now!
I didn’t read the books I’d intended to read this month for BROWN but I did read some books with brown on…
I also read some Netgalley books even though that wasn’t a challenge.

Well still really badly obviously, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will probably not complete them this year.
Anyhow, I can probably cross off another two from the Uppercase Reading Challenge next month as I hope to have finished
When Dimple Met Rishi and Days Without End.

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

I’m betting September will be busy, so I hope to get all my reviews up from while I was on holiday and read at least 4 books. I’d like to attempt to be more social on other blogs because practice makes perfect, but I really don’t think that will be this month.

I’d really like to get at least a couple of books read.
And try to get a review or two up on the blog. It’s been a while since I wrote one.
Paein has been so good keeping the blog running without me but I feel bad for having done very little recently.

Did you complete this month’s targets?

Well, I definitely read! Didn’t quite do a proper read-a-thon but I read most days and generally finished books in one or two days!

I read a book… feel I should mention said book as I haven’t so far…
Ooow and it was the last in a series so I’ve completed a series this month! Yay go me!
Take the Key and Lock Her Up by Ally Carter. It was a good finish to an entertaining YA series.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?

I’m finally back on track with my reading challenge on goodreads!! Or at least I will be by the end of today…I was over 30 books behind schedule in July. Yes many of my books were Manga, but that’s totally not cheating. Prepare for the blog to be smothered with reviews….just don’t get used to it!

I’m reading the Mr Men books? They’re funnier than I remember… loved reading Mr Tickle to a child :)
Read 8 of them so far… up next… Mr Topsy-Turvy
