NINJABOX is a quarterly UK based indie book subscription box. Each box features titles from independent publishers across a variety of genres including (but not limited to) contemporary fiction, graphic novels, science fiction, mystery, historical fiction and fantasy, plus at least 2 gifts and additional items and an invitation to join their private book group and talk all things bookish.

This month’s theme is ‘GOING HOME’.

In this box we got:

1. A Map of Tulsa by Benjamin Lytal
2. “Do more of what makes you happy” card by ASpoonfulOfSugarCo
3. Houses pouch by CuriousMissClay
4. Scooter charm by Ninjabookbox?
5. Potato tots recipe by NinjaBookbox
6. A writing map for art galleries by Shaun Levin and Mstr Gringo

My thoughts:

I gambled with this box and lost! They have many genres I’d have loved to receive an indie book from and I chose the month with the general/literary/contemporary fiction!
Still, it’s not completely out of my interest, though the colouring of the book reminds me of One Day – a book I fell out massively with – and the description makes me think of Paper Towns by John Green…

The writing map fits in with the late 90′s art scene setting the book is said to have and contains prompts for writers either in the setting of art galleries or with art books and postcards. I’m unlikely to use this to be honest, though I do sometimes write, these prompts wouldn’t be helpful for what I write.

The card has a fantastic message on it and the recipe is one I’ve never heard of before so that will be interesting to try out. The little charm is confusing, but I guess it will make more sense when I read the book?

And my favourite item is the pouch! (Any ideas what to use them for? I have so many now) it feels lightly padded so it’s going to protect anything I put in there.

I was testing out this box and while I think it’s a great idea, I’m already pushing my reading comfort zones with The Book Box Club’s box so I think I’ll just stick tot he one, but if you’re more adventurous with what you read than I am you should check them out!
