Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Book Boyfriends/Girlfriends. As we did fictional crushes recently, we’ve decided to choose characters who we think make/were good boyfriends/girlfriends.

1 Jamie Fraser – Outlander
by Diana Gabaldon
We wont list everything that Jamie’s done for Claire, mainly because I don’t know – I’ve only read two books – but also because we’d be here a while and if you haven’t already, you may cry. I chose Jamie over Claire because even though she did a lot for him too, there’s one thing she didn’t do and it really bothers me. I will most likely complain about it at length in the review for A Dragonfly in Amber I hope to get up later this week, it’s not quite a spoiler but it will surprise you if you’re only one book/season in.
2 Eliza Mirk – Eliza and her Monsters
by Franchesca Zappia
I’ve chosen Eliza over Wallace because he was a jerk and I don’t like him anymore. But she does and for him she overcomes her fears and comes to understand herself better and completes a hard task, so that’s pretty spectacular.
3 Rose Hathaway – Vampire Academy
by Richelle Mead
If you are surprised, bare with me. She’s loyal and she keeps her promises even when they’re to scumbags and she doesn’t really want to (yes I’m talking about you Adrian). It was a forbidden love she had with Dimitri and I’m a little iffy on the teacher/student ness of it all, but other than that they’re pretty amazing together.
I chose Rose over Demitri because of reasons that are massive plot points, not because if anything he did or didn’t do exactly.
4 Peeta Mellark- The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins
You probably know why I chose him over Katniss, though she did some pretty amazing things for him too. She was just being confused by Gale. They’re pretty even to be honest but when he was lost and she fought for him, he saw and he fought to meet her half way. Does that make sense? I’m trying to be vague here in case it’s a TBR for some people.
It comes across as his loving her more, though I don’t believe that because she fought damned hard for him. Actually maybe I should have chosen Katniss…
5 Nawat – Daughter of the Lioness Duology
By Tamora Pierce
The crow-boy loves a tricky human and she doesn’t quite take him seriously, so he takes himself off to deal with things and learn how to man and he was right to do so because she realised the error of her ways and they lived happily ever after, at least until the next series…
It’s not that he chose to be more human than crow for her, it’s that he recognised that he wasn’t contributing equally so he worked out who he was and came back his whole self and didn’t apologise for it. He did it for her, but he also did it for himself, if that makes sense?

6 Frederick Wentworth – Persuasion
By Jane Austen
So many people would probably have chosen Mr Darcy, when asked who their favourite Male Jane Austen character was, but for me, it’s Mr Wentworth. Even though Anne breaks his heart because she is easily swayed by the people around her, he never stops loving her and makes himself into the person she needed him to be… errr swoon! No?
7 Louisa Clark – Me Before You
By Jojo Moyes
I don’t really think I need to explain why I chose Louisa but I will anyway.
She’s bubbly and happy and quirky and she went above and beyond to help Will enjoy life again.
That is more than anyone could ask for.
8 Cricket – Lola and the Boy Next Door
By Stephanie Perkins
I love a quiet, geeky bloke and Cricket is definitely one of those. I think he won my heart the moment I read that he had made things for Lola. It’s like he was giving her pieces of his soul, small perfect little pieces.
9 Xander – The Obsession
By Nora Roberts
I chose Xander over Naomi because Naomi had a past that she was trying to hide from Xander and yet Xander finds out about it quite early on but never lets it undermine his feelings for her, in fact, he doesn’t even tell her he knows because he doesn’t want the knowledge that he knows to freak her out and cause her to run away from him. He just works at slowly winning her trust and making her feel safe.
10 Rishi – When Dimple Met Rishi
By Sandhya Menon
Rishi is the best book boyfriend because he knows what he wants and that is to see Dimple happy. Isn’t that adorable? It doesn’t matter what she wants, he makes it happen for her. What a perfect book boyfriend.
I see quite some mention of Cricket, haha. His name seems so off putting though. Was he named that by his parents?
Peeta was on my list this week too!

Peeta and Rishi are on my list as well. I think they`re the type of characters you`d love to meet in real life.
Carmen / Carmen`s Reading Corner
I love pretty much every one of these little nuggets. Great list!
I totally heart Peeta
