Sum It Up Sunday – October ’17

pamsumitup

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Paein:
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern which is my Halloween read,
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty which I was lent and
also, listening to A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin

The Night Circus big little lies a storm of swords

Ms4Tune:
I’m still struggling through Days Without End by Sebastian Barry
Started, There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins (cos I wanted something spooky for Halloween)
and started All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater,
which I’d hoped to finish in October so I could count it as an Orange Book but I haven’t read very much yet.

Days without End There's someone all the crooked

Ooh I hadn;t realised how text heavy all my books were at the moment. Simple type but pretty none the less.

What was your favourite book this month?

Paein:
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

a clash of kings

Ms4Tune:
Well I only managed one book this month so my favourite is The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo

The Language of Thorns

What was your least favourite book this month?

Paein:
By default it has to be The Treatment by C.L. Taylor, but only because it’s the only other book I’ve read!

the treatment

Ms4Tune:
I don’t have a least favourite that I’ve read but my least favourite that I’m reading is Days without End.
The language makes it difficult to follow and I haven’t connected to the character at all.

What do you want to read next?

Paein:
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo! No, Caraval by Stephanie Garber! Wait, maybe Heartless by Marissa Meyer??
Well, Caraval looks like fireworks (Remember Remember!), so perhaps that’s the best one to start with.
And Heartless has red in it so can be carried over into December if required…so that’s that sorted!

Ms4Tune:
I’d love to read Before the Devil Breaks You by Libba Bray but I doubt I’ll get round to it.
Especially as I have Solar Bones by Mike McCormack and Reservoir 13 by John McGregor to read. I got them out of the library.

before the devil breaks you Solar Bones reservoir 13

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

Paein:
I have no pre-orders and I don’t know what’s about so whatever is in my book boxes, surprise me!
Or, wait, is the illustrated edition of Fantastic Beasts out this month? hmm

Ms4Tune:
I’m still waiting for my copy of Darkest Torment by Gena Showalter to arrive.
Other than that I have an Illumicrate and a Fairyloot box coming soon!

DirectIngest, , Manually Released

How are your challenges going?

Paein:
Heh, I had to swap my orange book for a book on cat poetry…so, we’re limping by…but it still counts as orange! I have 2 more days!
Still have one book left in the uppercase challenge too.

Ms4Tune:
Ha well luckily The Language of Thorns counts as an Orange book and A book of Short Stories so I feel at least I’ve accomplished something this month!

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

Paein:
Read the 3 books I’ve got ear-marked for this month, maybe try another shot at netgalley, I was doing so well for a while, then September happened…

Ms4Tune:
Finish at least two of the library books I have out at the moment.
Read a Netgalley book.

Did you complete this month’s targets?

Paein:
Er, no, no I didn’t really. I haven’t actually properly read…I completed 2 books, one I started last month and the other was an audio book. So heh.

Ms4Tune:
I can’t even remember what my targets where but I probably didn’t complete them.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?

Paein:
Not really, except maybe BOOK FAIR!! haha

Ms4Tune:
Same as Paein only the book fair!
