1 Hunted

by Maegan Spooner

Beauty knows the Beast’s forest in her bones—and in her blood. Though she grew up with the city’s highest aristocrats, far from her father’s old lodge, she knows that the forest holds secrets and that her father is the only hunter who’s ever come close to discovering them.
So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there’s no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas…or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva’s father’s misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he’d been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance.
Deaf to her sisters’ protests, Yeva hunts this strange Beast back into his own territory—a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of creatures that Yeva’s only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty, or the Beast?

I love Beauty and the Beast retellings and this sounds like none I’ve ever read. It was on my summer list last year but I still don’t even own a copy!

2 Fate of the Tearling

by  Erika Johansen

In less than a year, Kelsea Glynn has grown from an awkward teenager into a powerful monarch and a visionary leader.
And as she has come into her own as the Queen of the Tearling, she has transformed her realm. But in her quest to end corruption and restore justice, she has made many enemies – chief among them the evil and feared Red Queen, who ordered the armies of Mortmesne to march against the Tear and crush them.
To protect her people from such a devastating invasion, Kelsea did the unthinkable – naming the Mace, the trusted head of her personal guards, Regent in her place, she surrendered herself and her magical sapphires to her enemy. But the Mace will not rest until he and his men rescue their sovereign from her prison in Mortmesne.
So, the endgame has begun and the fate of Queen Kelsea – and the Tearling itself – will be revealed…
With The Fate of the Tearling, Erika Johansen draws her unforgettable story full of magic and adventure to a thrilling close.

Another book that was on my ambitious reading plan last year. I had hoped to re-read and complete this series in September. Still, there’s always this year!

3 Dawn Study

by Maria V. Snyder

New York Times bestselling author Maria V. Snyder brings her Poison Study series to its exhilarating conclusion.
Despite the odds, Yelena and Valek have forged an irrevocable bond and a family that transcends borders. Now, when their two homelands stand on the brink of war, they must fight with magic and cunning to thwart an Ixian plot to invade Sitia.
Yelena seeks to break the hold of the insidious Theobroma that destroys a person’s resistance to magical persuasion. But the Cartel is determined to keep influential citizens and Sitian diplomats in thrall and Yelena at bay. With every bounty hunter after her, Yelena is forced to make a dangerous deal.
With might and magic, Valek peels back the layers of betrayal surrounding the Commander. At its rotten core lies a powerful magician and his latest discovery. The fate of all rests upon two unlikely weapons. One may turn the tide. The other could spell the end of everything.

Ahh I was so excited for this one! The second book left is in a precarious place. This I’ve put off for two reasons. One, it’s the end!!!!! And two, I need to re-read the whole storyline, including the ones I didn’t really like…
Still, I may like them better if I read them in the right place unlike the last time – they’re second not first…
I hope to get to this book this year as part of the read and complete challenge.

4 Wicked Like a Wildfire

by Lana Popović

All the women in Iris and Malina’s family have the unique magical ability or “gleam” to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love.
But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

A book box book from last year, I’m pretty sure I had it on at least one ‘looking forward to’ list!

5 Wires and Nerve

by Marissa Meyer & Douglas Holgate (Illustrations)

When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten the tenuous peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko takes it upon herself to hunt down the soldiers’ leader. She is soon working with a handsome royal guard who forces her to question everything she knows about love, loyalty, and her own humanity. With appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a must-have for fans of the series.

I can’t believe I still haven’t read this! The second one is coming out in a minute.
I think part of the problem was the price not coming down as far as I wanted it to. Also, will I need a re-read?!

Argh so many but here are 5.

A Conjuring of Light Now I Rise throne of glass wonder woman The Hate U Give

6 A Conjuring of Light

By V E Schwab

I think everyone knows by now how much of a fan I am of V E Schwab and particularly this series. I have no idea how I still haven’t got round to reading this final instalment but I will definitely be rectifying it this year.

7 Now I Rise

By Kiersten White

Another series I really meant to continue last year but didn’t. The first book was amazing but for some reason I just didn’t find time to squeeze this one in!

8 Throne of Glass

By Sarah J Maas

I’ve been meaning to read this series for years and still haven’t. The pile just keeps getting bigger and bigger (because obviously I can’t resist buying each new book as it comes out – because I have zero will power or self control. It’s now getting to be a little ridiculous. What if I dont even like the first book now???) I think if I do anything in 2018 I must at least read the first book of this series.

9 Wonder Woman

By Leigh Bardugo

I finally got round to purchasing and watching the dvd of Wonderwoman. Now I know this book has nothing to do with the film but I now at least know a little bit about Diana as a character. I really liked her and really want to read the comics now as well, but I will start with this. Plus it’s by Leigh Bardugo, one of my a time favourite authors.

10 The Hate U Give

By Angie Thomas

This book got so much love last year that I’m actually ashamed that I own it and still haven’t read it. It seems I totally missed out! I think it even got a good reads award…

Wonder Woman is so good! The Queen of the Tearling is one of my favourite trilogies, but the ending was such a disappointment for me.

I’ve heard some REALLY good things about Hunted – and it sounds like a pretty inventive Beauty&Beast retelling. (I haven’t gotten around to it yet, either, though.) And I’m very interested in the Wonder Woman novel – but I haven’t seen the movie (even if I really, really want to) and I’m constantly going back and forth with myself if I’m going to read the book. Hope you guys get to your choices this year!

If it helps… I’m finding The Hate U Give on a lot of these lists… including mine!

The Fate of the Tearling was one of my first reads of 2017 and the ending completely took me by surprise. I hope you like it, I loved the world of the Tearling but I haven’t found many other who did.
