I didn’t expect this to be the book to break through the funk I’ve been in recently, I was just conscious of the fact it was a CHRISTMAS story and Christmas was pretty close….
Nevertheless it was! Long may the break continue!
I read this book is a day and I really enjoyed it. I liked how it was written – not just because it was from both of their points of view, but because the characters were well established. We were given a decent amount of back story and fleshing out which isn’t exactly something you’d expect from a romance novel. I’ve discovered this is book 6 of a series! And while I don’t think I’d likely read all the others, there are at least 2, numbers 4 and 5, that connect to this one which I might consider reading too. I’d also like to read the one after this – if it’s connected of course. I think I know the likely candidate too, but I’m not gonna share that.
I thought that Harriet and Ethan were good for each other – they complimented and enhanced each other without seeking to ‘improve’ the other. She brought him out of the Harsh-and-Arrogant-Doctor role he seemed hell bent on living and, once he took the time, he really understood her and was able to support and encourage her in her goals.
Misunderstandings didn’t last long – though they were mostly his. Possibly because he was far more outspoken and was therefore more likely to put his foot in it.
What DID last long though was the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I, not being American, was pretty sure it was a month long gap but when you total up the weeks I’m pretty sure there’s at least 6 weeks…
Of course this was and ARC so perhaps it was picked up but someone who read it on time…
It was a very quick romance for all it felt well paced. Luckily her last decision worked out really well, it has to be said, but she really didn’t give him much of a chance. I can see her point, but really it was only 3 (or 6) weeks!
I would liked to have seen more of her with the godmother, a nice little chat about cooking or helping out in the kitchen or something and I’d also have liked us to see him meet her family, so I’m really hoping the next book is going to be connected!
There was no love triangle, pretty sure no jealousy, a tiny rift type thing and no terrible embarrassment so if they’re things you stay clear of, this book is safe for you!
But the biggest question of all is; the heck did those kittens come from?!
