Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Resolutions and Goals

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is: Top Ten Bookish Resolutions and Goals

Paein

1 Read 12 or more book box books

This year I’ve thrown over ‘resolutions’ in favour of 52 goals in 52 weeks. I only have 26 written down so far but there are a few bookish ones. This is one of them. I keep mentioning this, but I have an entire shelf of books I’ve received in book boxes. I probably won’t read some of them so I should probably sort those ones out, but I’d feel bad – they’re almost like gifts! But there’s no point in stockpiling these books, so my first bookish goal is to read 12 or more of these books. Either ones from last year or new ones as they come in! It’s going well so far! I’ve read two, if you count the ARC of The Sacrifice Box! Which I totally do…

2 Complete The Mortal Instruments series

This is also in my 52 goals. I have tried to read this series twice! The first time, I think there were only the first 3 books out. The second time was last year and I made it to 4 before I stopped, I can’t remember why. Possibly to read a challenge book. I’m hoping I haven’t waited too long to keep going, I don’t want to have to re-read the first 4 AGAIN.

3 Complete ACOTAR series

Also on my list. I’ve been told I NEED to finish this series. I’m not sure how I’ll feel about this. It seems to be against my principles, there’s a love triangle…I don’t get it. We’ll see.

4 Read Jane Eyre

This isn’t on my 52 goals list – mainly because I could fill the whole thing up with book goals and that would be ridiculous. I’ve been trying to put goals into sets of 2. There are 4 bookish ones on there and 2 for the blog! But this is still a goal. I read Pride and Prejudice last year and liked it more than I thought I would. I’ve chosen this one because I have 2 retellings waiting to be read and a third is coming out soon that I also really want to read!

5 Update the blog!

Yeah, there’s at least 5 updates pending for our blog. They need to be done in stages and I don’t quite get it. This is something Mr Ms4Tune will have to help us with, as he set us up in the first place! This is on my 52 goals list so there’s plenty of time. We will just have to make sure we do it carefully and make plenty of back ups…..

6 To Read 12 Books This Year

This may seem like an insignificant number of books considering I’m a book blogger and should be happily reading hundreds of books a year, and yes in previous years this would have been the case, but since having a baby I’ve really struggled to find time to read. I upset myself last year by watching the number of books I was behind on my Goodreads Reading Goal slowly increase further and further and I thought ‘You know what, I’m not gonna put myself under that sort of pressure this year. I’m going to go with an achievable number and if I read more than that then great.’

How many of you out there have struggled with your life/reading balance and how did you solve this problem?

7 To Get Back Into Reviewing

I really enjoyed reviewing what I read but thanks to the above issues I fell behind with reviewing too. This year I want to spend time and really focus on sharing my thoughts. I want to write quality reviews, not just blah reviews. I want to add something to this amazing community. I’m hoping to get my first review up in the next weeks so fingers crossed I do the book and myself justice.

8 To Inspire

My love for reading started when I was really little. I want to pass this love on and so will be aiming to read to my little one as often as I can. I want her to find all the magic and possibilities I did in books. This is the most exciting, yet most terrifying of all my New Years Resolutions… Cassie’s reading future depends on me…

9 To Join In With Challenges

I want to be more active in the online community again but I don’t want to shackle myself to more than I can deal with. So this year so far I have signed up to two blogging challenges:

The Netgalley Reading Challenge 2018
Finishing The Series Challenge 2018

and an Instagram challenge:

#unreadshelfproject2018

all of which are nice open challenges so if I change my mind and want to read something different they should still fit!

10 To Read What I Buy

In an attempt to reduce my buying, especially as so many of them end up on my ridiculously large TBR pile, I want to read what I buy. This includes any book box books I receive this year.

Reading more book box books is a great resolution! I had to stop ordering boxes because I just wasn’t getting through what I had.

I love the reading challenges you’ve picked to try. I’ll be doing the The Netgalley and Finishing The Series challenges too.

Best of luck to you both!

I love the idea of setting more small goals, instead of a few large goals. It’s something you can work on throughout the year like a checklist. Good luck completing those series and finishing your other goals for the year. Finding time to read with a baby is super tough. Having a Kindle Fire really helped me, because there is a read aloud setting that turns any book into an audiobook.
