Top Ten Tuesdays : Books That Take Place In Another Country

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is Top Ten Books That Take Place In Another Country

Woop, this is most books!

1 The City of Brass – Egypt

by S.A. Chakraborty

I read this recently and I really enjoyed it! I thought it was going to be a bit too historical for me but it was far more fantasy than I realised it was going to be from the cover and the description and the comparisons! I really enjoyed it.

2 Arrows of the Queen – Valdemar

by Mercedes Lackey

This is set in another world, but that counts. So many of my books are set in another world, I had to include some. This was the first book set in this world and while it might be 30 years old and slow to start it will introduce you into the most amazing world. Chronologically this is not the first book, but against character, I recommend reading at least the first few in published order – otherwise the legendary people in earlier books will have less impact.

3 Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda – America

by Becky Albertalli

This is another recent read and I am SO looking forward to seeing the film! It would have been so easy to fill this list with books set in America so I thought I should have at least one! I thought this was great and I’ll definitely be re-reading this again sometime.

4 A Game of Thrones – The Seven Kingdoms

by George R R Martin

This book is set in a rich world, pretty much everyone has heard of the show named after this first book! I struggled to read these but I loved the audio books. There’s just so much more detail and if you like the show I think it’s worth it!

5 Cinder - New Beijing

By Marissa Meyer

New Beijing isn’t a thing (yet) but this book is set in the future! The series actually takes place in various ‘unusual’ countries as well as space and on the moon. It’s so well done it’s amazing. If this isn’t on your list, you need to add it!

6 And I Darken – The Ottoman Empire (Prussia, Hungary etc)

By Kiersten White

I absolutely loved this book. It had a wonderful ancient civilisation feel to it and had some amazing details, like the specific aromas and delicate architectural details. It really gave it a sense of place. I can’t wait to read book two and three this year. I’m dying to dive back into this world.

7 The Nightingale – France

By Kristin Hannah

This in on my list for next month (along with her new book, hopefully). I haven’t read a historical fiction in a while but I heard its going to be a film soon so I thought I really should read it. Can’t see the film first now can I?!

8 Isla and the Happily Ever After – Manhattan and Paris

By Stephanie Perkins

I will be reading this this week. I absolutely loved Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door and I hear the characters from those two books make a camio in this one so I can’t wait to see them again.

9 The Woman in the Window – New York City

By A J Finn

I meant to read this this month but haven’t found time. I’ve heard good things though so heres hoping I can find time for it next month. Thrillers aren’t my usual read but Im looking forward to getting stuck into.

10 Bitten – Toronto

By Kelley Armstrong

This is a series I’ve had sitting in my shelves for such a long time but never read. I basically only wanted to mention it in a TTT in the hopes that other readers will tell me how good this series is and push me to read them!

I struggled with this weeks list so bad. I just don’t pay enough attention to where things are happening XD

It’s a lot easier for us as we don’t live in America… It’s surprising how many are based there. Thanks for stopping by.
