Top Ten Tuesday : Series I’ve Given Up On/Don’t Plan to Finish

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is Top Ten Series I’ve Given Up On/Don’t Plan to Finish

outlander altered carbon The Hazel Wood Empress of a thousand skies Wintersong

1 Outlander

by Diana Gabaldon

I loved book one, but then they headed off to France, lost some years and apparently go to America. I was reading these books for Scotland! Also, I like characters I like to be happy. I don’t think these guys are often happy and the series is going to be 10 books long! I just have one thing I want to have confirmed but for that I have to wait for book 10. I won’t be reading the others in the mean time…

2  Takeshi Kovacs

by Richard K. Morgan

This is the series Altered Carbon was based off of. I really enjoyed the Netflix show, but found the book a lot less interesting. Perhaps they took from more than just book one in the show, I won’t be finding out…

The Hazel Wood

by Melissa Albert

This was an odd fairytale. It just didn’t grip me the way I thought it might so I don’t think I’ll even read the novella with the tales from this story.

Empress of a Thousand Skies

by Rhoda Belleza

This called to mind another space-y book and wasn’t nearly as good. Of course now I have to re-read the other one to make sure I haven’t exaggerated it in my mind. Either way, I don’t want to keep up with this series.

Wintersong

by S. Jae-Jones

This wasn’t as good as I’d hoped, I felt disappointed when I finished it. Perhaps it was because I read the letter that came with my book by S Jae-Jones and she compared the Goblin King to David Bowie’s Goblin King and then I just couldn’t settle into the book. While I’d like to know the outcome of the book, I don’t want to recap one and read two to find it out…

If you know me at all you will know that I don’t give up on anything easily… even when its obvious to all around that I really should… I can name quite a few series that I should have given up on but stuck to till the bitter end…. Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, Embassy Row, The Kanin Chronicles… and some that I’m still bull headedly pushing through in the hopes that redemption lies ahead… Red Queen and Half Bad but I have found a few that I feel I will probably never return to so here they are…

Into the Dim the next together frozen me before you never never

6 Into the Dim

by Janet B Taylor

Read: Into the Dim

I got this as an ARC on Netgalley and to be honest I don’t remember a lot about it. I just remember thinking, I’d rather read Outlander, which was what it was compared too in its blurb…

7 The Next Together

by Lauren James

Read: The Next Together

A somewhat better time travelling novel, in comparison to Into the Dim, but I still I don’t think I want to continue with this series.

8 Heart of Dread

by Melissa de la Cruz

Read: Frozen

I enjoyed this first book but it suffered a lot from poor world development and for a fantasy novel I find this paramount in order to keep me engaged. I don’t remember a lot about the story but I remember thinking it felt like a dystopian novel and then she turned into a dragon or something and confused the hell out of me. See… really not worth me going back to this series… I’ve probably mixed two series together in my head…

9 Me Before You

by Jojo Moyes

Read: Me Before You

I know shocking! I am a massive Jojo Moyes fan, and have read nearly all of her books but for me, Me Before You was perfection and the thought of going back to that heartbreak and ruining all of what I remember just isn’t worth it. I even own After You, signed by Jojo Moyes but I think it will just have to sit on my shelves and look pretty.

10 Never Never

by Collen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Read: Never Never: Part One

I’m not sure how this can be called a series. It should just be called a book broken into pieces. I enjoyed the first part as it was intriguing but it was short. I looked at getting part 2 but the price was a little high for something that was less than 200 pages and then the reviews started coming in and people seemed disappointed with the series’ progression so I gave up. I think I made the right decision.

While I have read all three of the books in the Me Before You series, I totally respect your decision to just read the first. I think it’s so awesome that you even have one of them signed that you just keep because you love the author. I continued in the series because I needed more time with Louisa Clark, but the second and third books are such a departure from the first that it doesn’t feel like a connected series.
