“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favourite flower, your favourite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won’t matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.”

Wow. So, why did I stop reading this book in 2017?! It was amazing, I loved it!
Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood – or maybe the audiobook just brought it to life in a way that I needed, which the book wasn’t able to manage. Each character chapter had a different narrator so each person had a different voice – it was brilliantly done!

My favourites were Inej and Nina and Matthias and Kaz and Jesper and Wylan – why didn’t Wylan get any chapters? I was rather upset, I like him!
I DID love how major secrets were kept and other events worked around by simply being in another persons point of view chapter.
What was Kaz up to? I don’t know, we were hanging out with Jesper. How did Wylan do that? Not sure, Nina was watching Matthias.

The whole mission these guys go on was fantastic to read (or in my case listen to) from start to finish. It was so cleverly planned and so well written, I loved all these characters and how they worked together.
I had two absolute favourite moments that make it into any adaptions made – they would be cinematic master pieces; Kaz in the holding cell and Nina on the docks.
I also loved all the back story! I love back stories generally, they’re often so fascinating and these really didn’t disappoint. I also found it fascinating watching them become a team. It might have taken all book, but as Mr T says: “I pity the fool!”
Roll on book two! I can’t wait for them to take over the world.

I listened to books 1-3 of the Grisha trilogy or… whatever it’s called now, firstly because I was under the impression that a character from them was in here. I think that’s possibly got something to do with the reason I stopped reading it before – I wondered if I should know Matthias and Nina. Turns out, no. Nina was there I’m sure, but I don’t think she was ever mentioned by name. She was too young to be in the war – this book is set a few years later at least. She knew the characters from the first series though.

I spent a lot of this book in a field muttering “I ship it!” – not randomly, I was actually walking the dog – but for some reason all the best chemistry happened in that field. It is a large field. Also, I chose myself 3 ships that are all cannon and hopefully will actually be sailing off somewhere happy some day.

I’d love these guys to go places together, because there’s no end to what they could do and I could continue reading about their adventures forever. Also, I’d love to throw some old favourites into the mix, I mean, can you imagine Kaz and Nikolai?!
This book ends with a lead in to the next book – things are not currently going swimmingly. I’m not worried though, not with Kaz on the case. I have one little book to listen to next for my O.W.L.s exam challenge, but after that book two is all mine!!!

I’m so glad you loved this!! SoC is one of my favorite fantasies, mostly because the characters are so complex and layered and lovable as heck even when they are being kind of evil. I love them sm. :D Crooked Kingdom was even better, imo, and it certainly packs a lot of punches, so I’m excited to see what you’ll think of that.
