Top Ten Tuesday: Cover Redesigns We Loved/Hated

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is Cover Redesigns We Loved/Hated

1 Witchlands

By Susan Dennard.

I think I was collecting the US editions, because they were nicer. However, they went and CHANGED THE STYLE FOR BLOOD WITCH! It doesn’t match now and I’m so annoyed. There will be ‘updated’ covers in the US box set so that the first two match, but that’s no help because I already own the first two! Make that three actually, because the novella matches.
And I don’t like the new covers for the first two, at all.

2 Flame in the Mist

by Renée Ahdieh

I don’t like that Smoke in the Sun matches the paperback rather than the first hard cover! I am partial to a matching set. I have recollected books before and then regretted getting rid of the originals because it’s the originals everyone is after, but never mind.

3 The Bone Season

by Samantha Shannon

I wasn’t too invested in this one when the cover change happened, so I quite like the new ones.

4 books by Cassandra Clare

To be honest, I haven’t even finished the first series, but I’m collecting these covers because they’re beautiful. I might be  scared to read them but that’s not an issue we’ll have for a bit. I really don’t like the originals and I’m looking forward to the prequel series finally having special covers!

5 Harry Potter

by JK Rowling.

harry potter 1 Harry Potter harry potter and the philosophers stone illustrated edition harry potter Ravenclaw

harry potter signature editions Harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban Harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban harry potter illustrated

So many covers here, and not just in the UK! Our original collection is a bit all over the place, but since then I’ve collected a few complete sets.

I liked the old cover. I think the earthy colours just appealed to me more. It annoys me so much that the rest of the series have the match the 2013 edition. They’re just a bit meh.

7 Nightworld

by L J Smith

1996 Archway vs 1997 Hodder vs 2008 Simon Pulse vs 2016 Hardback Simon Pulse

Ok so the original 1996 covers definitely needed a redesign and I have a found place in my heart for the 1997 covers because they were the ones I originally collected .I have the 2008 omnibus editions because my 1997 collection fell to pieces but I don’t really like how generic they are. I do however love the 2016 hardback redesigns! They speak to me! I may have to collect them…

I prefer it when series match, too. It’s fine to redesign them…just wait until the second edition is published!
