Top Ten Tuesday: Books We Enjoyed That Are Outside of Our Comfort Zones

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is Top Ten Books We Enjoyed That Are Outside of Our Comfort Zones (i.e., a genre you don’t typically read or subject matter you’re not usually drawn to)

My comfort zone is Fantasy and my most frequented other zone is Contemporary, so I went with that.

moxie eliza and her monsters fangirl the list ???????????????????????

1 Moxie

by Jennifer Mathieu

I read contemporary books sporadically and this is one I just randomly decided to pick up and read (if I remember correctly). I was surprised at how much I liked it actually, because it’s the kind of book that can really miss the mark.

2 Eliza and Her Monsters

by Francesca Zappia

I hummed and hawwed about this book for months before I bought it and I’m so glad I did. There were bits that seemed odd to me and I’d have loved to know more but I ended up really enjoying it.

3 Fangirl

by Rainbow Rowell

I liked that this was a book about a girl who wrote fanfiction off of a Harry Potter world. I also love that we GET the fanfiction – sort of. Very clever, Why isn’t wayward son out yet?! (Yeah, I bought it for the name…and the pretty pages…)

4 The List

by Siobhan Vivian

This is one that I requested from Netgalley when I was in the ‘request anything that sounds remotely interesting!’ phase. I really don’t think I’d have read it other wise which worked out in my favour – I remember liking the story as well as liking how it was written – especially getting to see the impact on all those involved. Very well done

5 Always Never Yours

by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

I found this one a little odd, but it was cute and that was what I’d been after so that’s all that mattered.

I had no idea Fangirl contains references to Harry Potter fan fiction. That’s awesome.

    My TTT.

Hi! Yeah, the fanfiction she writes about in the book is a spoof of Harry Potter. For some reason I find this humourous!

Aw, The List! Cool choice. It wasn’t my favorite Siobhan Vivian book (I liked A Little Friendly Advice and Same Difference more), but I enjoyed the mystery of finding out who was behind it all, and was impressed by her ability to juggle so many viewpoints.
