Finley Jayne has a secret; there’s another version of her living within her body and when threatened, that version protects her with a strength no Victorian girl should have. Lost and alone, she flees her job, having fought off the young Lord and won, only to literally run into Griffin King, the only man in all of London who can see what she truly is; special. And, one of them.
For the young orphaned Duke is no ordinary Victorian boy. He and his band of misfits, Emily the genius mechanic, Sam the part automaton and Jasper the American cowboy all have secret talents of their own. Together they must unravel the plans of the Machinist before he tears them apart. But secrets and trust don’t make good bedfellows and they are all tested to their limit.

I randomly picked this one up off my bookshelf because I was sick and promptly read it in one sitting, give or take. There seemed to be two books in one, the novella “The Strange Case of Finley Jayne” was in the front of the book and therefore is included in this review.
Unfortunately the novella seems to have been written afterward as some facts don’t cross over into the main story, there are a few discrepancies. (but I have read worse!)

While the love triangles are bothersome, they weren’t too bad, more ‘slight interest’ than full blown love. The concept of this book is interesting. Poor Finley isn’t alone within her own body, but she’s not the only one with something different about them and she’s lucky enough to stumble over the others and finally find where she belongs.

I do believe any review depends on the mood you’re in when you read the book. Though the story seems a little unlikely, though I’m not talking about the made up biology or mechanics, because lets face it, in alternate reality fiction, anything is possible, but it flows well and I enjoyed all of the characters, it was exactly what I needed to get me through my sick days. I can’t wait for book 2 to turn up so that I can continue the story!
