When Sybella arrived at the doorstep of St Mortain half mad with grief and despair the convent were only too happy to offer her refuge – but at a price. The sisters of this convent serve Death, and with Sybella naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, she could become one of their most dangerous weapons.
But her assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to the life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. But when Sybella discovers an unexpected ally she discovers that a daughter of Death may find something other than vengeance to live for…

The great thing about The Big Rest (aka Winter Holidays) is that when you spend the entire night reading a book, it doesn’t matter if you don’t get up the next morning! Well, only if you don’t have plans…

Death. Death is my favourite. (possibly followed by a certain brother for keeping his promise even if he did creep me out too, though I cannot actually name him here, Spoilers!). I love this portrayal of Death and the love he has for his Daughters. (Almost as much, if not as much as the idea of the Shadow-Lover of Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar world.) Because he visits them. Death visits his Daughters and it is beautiful. He offers them truth and insight when they need it most and it is the most wonderful truth; he loves them and they are perfect just the way they are.
He has his Mercy and now his Justice, I can’t wait to find out the destiny of Annith.

Sybella has had a hard time of it, hidden in one of the worst places in Brittany, it must have been such a relief to escape and whatever the outcome, I certainly wont be forgiving the Abbess for sending her back. I am curious to her game and how well it is received by Mortain.
