I have read so many Young Adult romances recently that, I must admit, it took me a while to get into this one. It took me a while to appreciate having a more detailed description of the surrounding landscape and to have characters who, while not without their troubles, weren’t full of angst and unnecessary conflict.

The House of Frozen Dreams was a beautifully crafted, slow paced romance that stretched over a year. The book itself was split into the four seasons and we were given some wonderful scenic descriptions. The characters were realistic. I thought the dialects and accents Sere Prince Halverson used were well done, especially Nadia’s English with a Russian twang.

While I did enjoy this story I did find myself getting a little sidetracked now and again. Not a lot happened. There were family situations that arose but they didn’t seem to develop, they just seemed to resolve themselves. For example Kache’s Aunt kept many secrets from him and yet he just walked away and before you knew it he got over it and forgave her. I would have liked just a little bit of a family fall out, just to liven things up a bit. The ending you could see coming from the very beginning and because of that it was a little disappointing. It needed more! But I did love the addition of Kache’s father, it was thoughtfully done and gave us some closure.

Overall this was a sweet romance and I can see this being a great it with fans of Nicholas Sparks and other contemporary romances novelists.
