pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far In 2015

Winner's Crime the darkest part of the forest traitor's blade knight's shadow the storyspinner a sorceress of his own

Unfortunately we have roofers in right now and everything is tucked away from the dust so I can’t take pretty pictures of mu choices, no matter how much I’d like so, so you’ll just have to admire Ms4Tunes’ ones twice!

1 The Winners Crime

By Marie Rutkoski

Ok, so I didn’t read this this in 2015, but the tail end of 2014 as I was lucky enough to get an ARC ( Review HERE). But it came out on 2015 so it gets to be my number 1 on a technicality! I loved this story and I’m impatiently waiting for the conclusion. This is a fantasy story as well as a romance. Two people who shouldn’t fall in love do and this is the story of how their worlds crumble and collide around them because of people trying to pull them apart again.

2 The Darkest Part Of The Forest

by Holly Black

This one was different and I liked it (Review HERE). I love her writing and how she presents things (though not the heavily open endings) and I certainly liked how the romance resolved itself. This is a fairy story, not a fairy tale (though it has sleeping beauty/snow white parallels with the handsome boy sleeping in a glass coffin in the forest) and it’s set in contemporary times.

3 Traitors Blade/ Knights Shadow

by Sebastien de Castell

So this is technically two, but I read them right next to each other and I’d find it hard to just pick one. (Review of Traitors Blade HERE and review of Knights Shadow HERE). These were a surprise, another Netgalley find and I’m so happy I’ve found them. They’re another fantasy, this time there’s no romance, but a lot of despair. This is a world torn apart by greed and only a few good men are trying to patch it back up again. So far they’ve managed to patch it all up but it’s been touch and go. I’m simultaneously dreading and anticipating the next instalment.

4 The StorySpinner

by Becky Wallace

Another fantasy! Can you guess my favourite Genre? (Review HERE) A long lost princess raised as an acrobat. She needs to be taken somewhere to save something (spoilers!!) and she’s a thoroughly enjoyable character to read about. Like I said in my review though, the blurb made Rafael sound power hungry and he just wasn’t. I feel I need to clear this up because that fact almost made me not read it.

5 A Sorceress of His Own

by Dianne Duvall

This one I read quite recently and it’s based in such a fascinating world. (Review HERE) Again, fantasy, this one has a touch of magic and is a pre series to another, which I hope to read. A feared man wishes for a woman who would love him without fear. A woman with a feared power takes over her grandmothers role as his healer to keep herself and to be near him. Of course romance ensues. This isn’t the entirety of the story either. There are other things happening within the story that are just as interesting.

uprooted1 A Darker Shade final for Irene sineater Girl at Midnight Sacrificed

So I’ve read 53 books so far this year, and these are the ones that I can’t seem to forget.

by Naomi Novik

Review HERE

I received Uprooted from Netgalley. It sounded a lot like Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge and to be honest I didn’t really expect a lot from it. I remember being a little disappointed at the beginning when I discovered the Dragon wasn’t actually a Dragon but just someone who called themselves the Dragon because a magic bell told him this was his magical name. I was surprised by how much I loved this book. I was drawn into its twisted tale. I suppose it must have been the magic from the woods because I just couldn’t put this down.

by V E Schwab

Review HERE

This fantasy book about multiple layers in the universe was great. The characters were gritty but likeable. The story was unique and interesting and I couldn’t get enough of it. I actually  read all of this in one sitting and remember looking up from it with blurry eyes and thinking WOW. Just wow.

by Melinda Salisbury

Review HERE

This was another fantasy book but it was heavy on the romance side. Its full of lies and deceit and broken promises.
I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

by Melissa Grey

Review HERE

I can totally see this one being a love it or hate it book. It’s not overly original in the plot and some of the characters seem familiar too. But the idea of feather and scale covered people was something I just fell in love with. The relationships between characters will definitely keep me reading cos I have deep feelings now. :)

10 Sacrificed

by Emily Wibberley

Review HERE

This was one of my first netgalley approvals of the year and as it was a self published book I wasn’t expecting a lot. But my god was this good! Just goes to show you that you shouldn’t make assumptions. It was extremely fun, well written and well paced. I was on the edge of my seat for most of it and I couldn’t help but feel for the characters. Book 2 is out soon and I’ve already pre-ordered my copy!

You have a a few titles here that I desperately wish to read: Girl at Midnight, A Darker Shade of Magic, and Uprooted. So many people keep recommending those to me. The Traitor’s Blade/Knight Shadow immediately drew my attention though. Those covers are gorgeous and the way you’ve described them… color me intrigued.

My Top Ten Tuesday was a lot of older titles but I’m taking this year to catch up on a lot of YA that I had missed out on.

I’m about to start Uprooted myself! I hope I love it.
Thank you! I’m so happy about this. I have to admit to liking Traitors’ Blade/Knights’ Shadow so much I bought them as real books too, having read them as e-books.

I’m hoping to do that over the summer! I like your list! But I cant comment on your page right now, sorry. I loved both Cress and The Duff and I want to read An Ember in the Ashes!

      Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Beth! I can understand your desperation :) If I could, I would send you all of them as they are all amazing, but my copies (Girl at Midnight, ADSoM and Uprooted) were all ARCs from Netgalley.:( I hope you can get hold of them soon.

I love your list! I have so many YA books to catch up on too, Jackaby, Eleanor and Park, The Lunar Chronicles and An Ember in the Ashes are all on my TBR list for this year. Glad to see they won you over!

Ooh, there’s so many books here I’m wanting to read. I’ve got The Storyspinner just sitting on my shelf and I’m going ‘I need to read it’ because it just sounds like the perfect book for me. And Uprooted! I hear great things about it and I’m planning to read it next month. I’ve heard mixed things about The Sin Eater’s Daughter, but it sounds like something I could really enjoy. I’ve not even started The Winner’s Trilogy yet, but I need to because I hear such wonderful things about it. Finally, I haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic yet (even though it sounds like my kind of book) because I’ve promised myself to read Vicious first – which is another book I plan to read next month.

Uprooted was amazing. It has such a great old-story-style to it, so I’m excited for you to read it. Paein’s reading it next. I read The Sin Eater’s Daughter before most of the reviews went up. I had no real expectations for it but I was so surprised, I can see why it would be a love-hate book though, it’s a bit like The Queen of the Tearling, slow paced and with a thin plot but the characters were lovely, and the romance was strong (in my opinion).

I’ve not read The Winner’s Trilogy either but I hope too soon as Paein loved it so much and Vicious is on my TBR list because V E Schwab’s ADSoM was amazing :)

I love The Winners Trilogy, I’d recommend waiting for the last one to be out in case you love it as much as I do ( : A Darker shade of magic is on my borrowed list, but I have so many books to read right now it’s crazy.

I really need to sort out some way of commenting on everyone elses’ blogs, it’s crazy. Three books on your list are ones I hope to read soon! All our Yesterdays, A Wicked Thing (What you’ve said about it just makes me want to read it more) and Prudence. I love Gail Carrigers’ books! Prudence is the only one I haven’t read yet. And I really enjoyed The Paper Magician and I want to read the rest of the series.

      Thanks for stopping by!

The dolls are darling! This is my first time dropping by your blog. Several of the books on your list have piqued my curiosity and I want to look into them. The book THE DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC has been on many lists I’ve looked at for TTT. Thanks for dropping by my blog and you are welcome back any time.

    1. Paein

Thank you! I loosely based them off of the doll that Lilo has in Lilo and Stitch ( :

I have The Martian to read soon and I cant wait and I also have the first in the Raven Cycle trilogy on my shelves. I hope to get to it next year!
Thank you for coming to visit us ( :

Agree with so many of these! ‘The Winner’s Crime’ was fantastic, as was ‘The Darkest Part of the Forest’, and I loved ‘The Girl at Midnight’ – it ended up on my list too! Great choices!
