Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics… nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart – the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David’s been studying, and planning – and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He’s seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

This is my first Brandon Sanderson book and I wasn’t disappointed! I’ve had three sitting on my shelves for a few years, but I’m always worried to read a ‘popular author’ in case I don’t like their work, which makes me sad. As I’ve said, this wasn’t the case here and I can’t wait to read more of his work.

Ms4Tune has previously read this book too and her review can be found HERE. I can’t promise my review will cover different points, because I haven’t read it yet. I won’t read it until this one is complete and published either, because reading other reviews always changes how I write mine, so sorry if we talk about ALL the same stuff.

This is first person from the point of view of David – a nice change – which will open up the appeal to guys too. I found the world well built and quite engaging. I really wanted to know what happened next, but it wasn’t until 75% that I felt myself trying to cram it in which is the mark of a good book to be sure, but sometimes you want one of those good books that you don’t stress about putting down and can enjoy calmly picking up again without getting tense and for me this was one of those.

As always – as a book one – nothing is explained passed the point of grasping your attention, except for the nice little reveal at the end there….and I was expecting a death, but not that one! So that was a little exciting and I’m hoping that last comment there will sink in and help out some.

I can’t wait to find out what happens in this world next, as book three is out next year I hope to be able to add this series to my series read plan for then. I can’t wait!
