1 The Paper Magician/ The Glass Magician

by Charlie N. Holmberg

I know, I know, this series is actually finished. I actually own books 2 and 3 on my kindle as well, but I’m yet to read them. My review for Paper Magician can be found HERE, I gave it 3.5 Voodoos.

This was a reluctant world at first, but it grew on me and what was happening with the paper magic was exciting! and where the story seems to be going is brilliant. I hope to pick this series up again soon.

2 Snow Like Ashes/Ice Like Fire

by Sara Raasch

17399160 (1)

I really liked where this was going, it seemed to be completely outside the box and I hope it continues that way. I gave it 5 voodoos and my review can be found HERE

I’m looking forward to how the big secret effects everything in the next book!

3 The Storyspinner/ The Skylighter

by Becky Wallace

the storyspinner

I found this book refreshing and an exciting start to a new series. Though some things were predictable, others were a surprise, and while Rafi sounded like an arse in the blurb, he really wasn’t. I gave it 5 voodoos and my review can be found HERE.

I look forward to finding out how the situations of this world are resolved in the next book, and I also hope to see their romance progress positively.

4 Midnight Thief/ Daughter of Dusk

by Livia Blackburne

Why did no one inform me that book 2 was out already? My goodness! I gave this one 4 voodoos and my review can be found HERE.

No love triangle and an interesting twist. I can’t wait to find out where this goes next. I don’t remember much of the story though, so I’ll have to re-read it. Oh dear, what a shame…

5 The Jewel/ The White Rose

by Amy Ewing

I wasn’t completely convinced with the first book, I gave it 3.5 Voodoos and my review can be found HERE.

HOWEVER the second book sounds pretty exciting and I’m actually looking forward to it. They’ve actually escaped and they’re fighting back!

Even the covers are exciting! Can’t wait for A Torch Against the Night’s Cover to be revealed! Not surprisingly all these sophomore books are series continuations.

6 The Shadow Hour

by Melissa Grey

Girl at MidnightMelissa Grey’s Debut Novel – The Girl at Midnight – Released 28th of April 2015.

I gave The Girl at Midnight 4 Voodoos. It reminded me of Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments. It was fun and full of amazing characters. My Review can be found HERE

I’m looking forward to seeing the development of relationships, especially between Dorian and Jasper. And whether Echo and Caius will be able to save their races from imminent war.

7 The Sleeping Prince

by Melinda Salisbury

sineaterMeilnda Salisbury’s Debut Novel – The Sin Eater’s Daughter – Released 26th February 2015

I gave The Sin Eater’s Daughter 5 Voodoos, and it seems I may have been alone in my admiration for this book. I really enjoyed the romance and the castle setting. I know there wasn’t much of a storyline but it felt like one of those old style fantasy novels. No one else had read it when I reviewed this so I had little or no expectations for this book, so perhaps that helped, plus I think it was at a time when I had a lot of time for reading, whatever the reason I enjoyed this very much. My Review can be found HERE.

I can’t wait to find out more about the Sleeping Prince as the mystery behind his fairytale was only just beginning at the end of The Sin Eater’s Daughter.

8 The King Slayer

by Virginia Boecker

witch hunterVirginia Boecker’s Debut Novel – The Witch Hunter – Released 2nd June 2015

The Witch Hunter got 4 Voodoos from me. Unlike Sin-Eater’s Daughter which had a slow pass through out, The Witch Hunter kept going quick slow quick slow and sadly it lost a star for that reason, I don’t like getting whiplash. But the overall theme was interesting and I liked the characters. My review can be found HERE.

I will be honest I don’t remember a lot of what happened at the end of The Witch Hunter so I may have to have a quick re-read before jumping into The King Slayer but I remember wanting a lot of revenge!

9  Hidden Huntress

by Danielle Jensen

stolen songbirdDanielle Jensen’s Debut Novel – Stolen Songbird – Released 1st of April 2014

I gave Stolen Songbird 5 Voodoos, because of the awesome troll storyline! I didn’t really like the main character but I think that was the point. She was prickly and irritating but slowly a bound started to form. My review can be found HERE

I know Hidden Huntress has been released, I even own a copy, but for some reason I haven’t picked it up yet. I think I’m worried because it moves away from the Troll Mountain and goes out into the world. I’m scared that it won’t have all the magic and mystery now that it’s not got the setting. Plus its a middle novel…

10 A Torch Against the Night

by Sabaa Tahir

Ember in the AshesSabaa Tahir’s Debut Novel – An Ember in the Ashes – Released 28th of April 2015

I’ve actually only just started reading An Ember In The Ashes but it’s so good!

i can’t really say what I’m looking forward to because everything could still change storyline wise by the time I finish book one.

Oh I forgot about Melinda Salisbury. I didn’t LOVE The Sin Eater’s Daughter but I am very much looking forward to The Sleeping Prince! x

An Ember in the Ashes made my list too this week, I can’t wait for Tahir’s second book! I have had both Snow Like Ashes and Ice like Fire on my bookshelf for a while, but still haven’t managed to read either of them! Oh dear. Hopefully I will get round to them one day. I have heard such AMAZING things about The Sin Eater’s Daughter, I really really do need to read that one!
I hope you both get to read all these Sophomore books! :)

We share number 6 and 10 (I really love the cover of that edition of The Girl at Midnight, by the way). I also need to read The Paper Magician books. :)

Great list. You have a few books on here that I have read and enjoyed myself. I think I am also going to have to add a few of these to my Christmas wishlist, it looks like I have missed out on some great debuts recently. I am especially excited to read An Ember in the Ashes, I have heard so many good things about that one. Here’s my TTT.
