In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

Again, I’ve found similarities with the first time I read this book. I found myself more invested in Cress than I was in Scarlet during Scarlet. This is possibly because more happens in Cress, things are coming together. Unlike the first time I read this, it didn’t feel so obvious that things were going wrong just because. Possibly because I’m taking my time about reading them this time and they haven’t all blurred into one.

Again the main characters are very different. Cress – being Rapunzel – has been stranded in a satalite for 7 years and is sort of apprehensive and shy while Thorne is a greedy thief type guy. She’s infatuated with him and to his credit he tells her the truth of him, but maybe she was more right than he knew.

I think out of them all Thorne has gone through the biggest change (aside from Cinder – but with her it was more discovering what she was) and I’m curious to see how much more he grows. I find myself agreeing with the Doctor, but unlike the Doctor I believe he could one day be good enough. It was sad he didn’t get to see Cress in her dress, but perhaps he’s not ready for that yet.

And we finally meet Winter – the star of the final book. I cant wait to read about her, the crazy ones always remind me of one of my own dear characters and seeing even a little of her personality in others is exciting and fascinating. But first comes Fairest and I’m apprehensive about this one. It’s about Levana. I’m not a fan about reading things from the bad guys point of view. Sometimes I like them to just be bad guys, y’know?
