pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Ten Best Books We Read In 2015

1 The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

by Holly Black

yes, it’s a re-read. But I don’t care. I fell in love with it again and I want to read it AGAIN! I can’t tell you why I love it so much – mostly because in attempting to explain I’d give away major plot points I’m sure.

2 The Blue Sword

by Robin McKinley

I’ve read some books by Robin before and while I’ve enjoyed them I’ve never LOVE them like I did this one. It was just 100% my kind of book. Unfortunately it’s the end of the series and nothing more happens because I’d be all over those books if there were! I do have a collection of short stories I’m hoping are set in this world.

3 The Sand Prince

by Kim Alexander

I’ve recently read this and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it – perhaps because of the amount of people who DNF the book. It seems they were too impatient to sit through the world building. But I got through the Obsidian Mountain Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey and I remember that being far slower!

4 Hunter

by Mercedes Lackey

Speaking of Mercedes, her latest new series is on this list too. I am a fan of her work, I’ve loved most of her books I’ve read so far and this was no exception. I thought it was a stand alone and it’s really not. It also seems far closer to home than usual – it’s sort of a dystopian future world for us as opposed to a totally different one.

5 Mind of the Phoenix

by Jamie McLachlan

This one surprised me too and I’m not sure why. Perhaps because I simply thought it ‘vaguely interesting’ when I requested it from Netgalley. The storyline was interesting, but what I enjoyed most was the chemistry between Moira and Keenan. It wasn’t bright and burning and in your face. It was slow and it feels like it’s going to be powerful and I can’t wait.

So I’ve cheated and named six rather than five. This was really hard! I’ve read so many good books this year.

six of crows A Darker Shade final for Irene diviners Girl at Midnight sineater me before you

6 Six of Crows

by Leigh Bardugo

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is my favourite book of 2015! It has everything you can possibly want from a YA Fantasy!

7 A Darker Shade of Magic

by V E Schwab

I’ve had a lot of first looks at popular authors this year and I can’t believe this was my first V E Schwab book. It was amazing.
I can’t wait to read everything else she’s written next year.

8 The Diviners

by Libba Bray

This fantasy book set in the 1920′s left me reeling! I loved it so much. I greedily devoured all 590 pages of it in a couple of days and then jumped straight into book 2, Lair of Dreams. This was beautifully atmospheric.

9 The Sin Eater’s Daughter and The Girl at Midnight

by Melinda Salisbury and Melissa Grey

I literally couldn’t choose between these two! I don’t know why, because they are nothing a like, The Sin Eater’s Daughter is a slow character driven fantasy romance and The Girl at Midnight is an action packed fantasy battle between races, and yet, when I think of one I think of the other. I read them in the same month and can only suggest that is the reason why, but as I loved them both so much, I couldn’t leave either of them off this list.

10 Me Before You

by Jojo Moyes

Anyone who knows me knows I love Jojo Moyes’ historical books but this was the first of her contemporary books, that I’ve read and I’m happy to say I loved it! She broke my heart! I can’t wait for the film next year, so it can break all over again!

There are number of books on your list I meant to read this year but just didn’t seem to get to. I really want to get to Me Before You as soon as I can, I am in the mood for a book like that right now. Great lists guys!

Hi Jazmin, I know what you mean! I’ve been looking at everyone’s lists going… Why didn’t I read that this year?! Me Before You will make you cry soooo much but will also make you laugh, its an emotional rollercoaster that everyone needs to experience :) Hope you get to read it soon.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve just seen your list and I need to read most of yours too! Here’s hoping 2016 will be the year we do! Thanks for stopping by.

Oh you really do! Pick it up now! It’s gorgeous and so emotional! Hope you get to read it soon. Thanks for stopping by!

Ooh, some nice suggestions here. Six of Crows is on my list too, and The Blue Sword is one of my all time favorites. Hunter was 50/50 for me – I loved parts of it (the whole idea, for starters), but some of it just felt too cliche and overdone. But that might just be me!
    V. E. Schwab is on my must-read for 2016 list. I just haven’t had time, but I keep seeing so many great things about her books.

I am definitely going to add some of these to my TBR!

I recently bought The Diviners. Can’t wait to read it to see what everyone’s raving about.

It’s long but really worth it! I hope you get to read it soon. :)

  4. Mishma @ Chasing Faerytales

ADSOM and Six of Crows made my list as well! They’re such terrific books! Unfortunately, I couldn’t enjoy The Diviners much. I loved the writing, but Evie annoyed me a bit!
    Thanks for stopping by! :)

haha, don’t read book 2 then! I found Evie tolerable in The Diviners but irritating to the extreme in Lair of Dreams!
