Top Ten Tuesday: Resolutions We Have For 2016

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Resolutions We Have For 2015 (can be bookish, personal resolutions, “I resolve to finally read these 10 books, series I resolve to finish in 2016, etc.)

Paein

1 Read the books I’ve been lent

I’ve been holding on to these for a little while now. It’s time I read them and gave them back. Plus they’re taking up valuable bookshelf space!! Also, I feel it’s kind of rude of me. I’m fine with other people holding on to my books for sometime, but the other way round I just feel impolite. Maybe it’s a British thing?

2 Finish some series!

This is my challenge for myself this year! Well, more of a re-read for the never-ending ones. But I have collected some complete ones and I need to get through those too.

3 Continue with last year’s clear out/Complete a challenge

So this didn’t go so well last year. I read and removed quite a lot of books last year, but not ALL the ones I told myself I’d donate away if I hadn’t read them by the end of December 2015 were read or removed…they’re hiding back on my shelves. I also didn’t complete the 52 book challenge either….Ms4Tune found a smaller challenge for this year so fingers crossed!

4 Use my Camera!

I’ve had my wonderful camera for a few years now and I have never sat down and learnt all about it. Each summer it’s my biggest plan…and it never happens. This year it will!!!!

5 Do NOT kill off my plants…

I tried orchids. I tried some little Christmas rose thing…This year I’m trying aloe vera and bonsai! Because aloe is good for you and tiny trees are adorable. I have an aloe plant that’s already had babies and though I’ve got a bonsai seed kit, there’s a whole bunch of willow in a tub of water outside busy rooting ready to be turned into a living fence/to fill a gap in a hedge and I’ve got my name on a piece because I saw a pretty amazing willow bonsai. This will pretty much be a willow cutting in a pot for some years before much else happens, but I figure it will teach me patience. Stop laughing. I’m going to get google/pinterest to help me with every step this time though. I will NOT kill them…I hope…

6 Read more books by male authors

I was shocked by how few books by male authors i read last year! Out of the 100 books I read in 2015, less than 10% were by male authors! That’s just terrible. I’m not going to be silly and think I can make it a 50/50 split but I can at least try for 33% (one 3rd) of my 2016 books being by Male authors.

7 Do Fewer Challenges but COMPLETE THEM

I think I say this every year… But I was so disappointed that I’d fallen so far behind with my a-z and my pop-sugar challenge last year that I resolve to do fewer challenges this year! I will aim to get a head in the ones I do do. I will have to pace myself like I do with the goodreads reading goal challenge. I will be participating in the pop-sugar challenge again this year and you can follow mine and Paein’s process HERE. I have already planned out all the books I aim to read. Hopefully that will help

8 Read My Trilogies

So apparently I have become a Trilogy hoarder! I have collected and not read so many trilogies its unbelievable. So I think one of my resolutions this year will be to read some of these awesome sets. Perhaps one a month? (I have that many!)

9 Go To The Library

Yes, as I book lover you would think this would be an easy one for me, but no. I actually went for the first time in 6 years the other day. It was awesome. I’m hoping this will save me money because my library seems to have a lot of the books I want to read! It was hard just to choose two but I went for two in the knowledge that I will struggle to read them in the 3 weeks I have till I have to give them back.

10 Organise My Library

So I’ve just moved and we have a spare room which I have been given permission to set up as a library. YAY exciting!!! Currently all my books are in boxes waiting for shelving and decorating to happen. I don’t want them to spend the whole year in boxes sooo I will aim to have it all set up before the end of the year! Watch this space for pictures!

Lots of luck to both of you on these resolutions! In fact, I’ve got some of these on my list too. #2 – as I seem to start series and NEVER finish them. It also sounds that you’re #3 is kind of like my goal to cut my TBR stack way down. (And hopefully never let it get this full again.) And #7 – although I didn’t actually do any challenges last year. I’ve got three planned for this year and I can’t wait to see what happens. I’d also love to read more books by male authors, but I really feel that this is something I won’t be able to force.

Hello and thank you! I wish you luck with your challenges. I actually managed to read more male authors by accident last year, I agree – actively looking for them makes it harder, you’re under pressure to pick up one of their books.
