1 Rose and Dimitri – Vampire Academy

by Richelle Mead

These guys have a pretty powerful relationship – an ‘epic love’. They go through a lot and spent more time not-together than together due to happenings, but when they are together they’re together together, they’re a team. They complete each other and know each other so well they don’t need words in tight situations. In The Golden Lily someone says this of them:

“Ah, those two. In a fight, they’re lethal. Around each other, they melt.” – page 174

and that’s just fantastically adorable and I love it.

2 Tana and Gavriel – The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

by Holly Black

There isn’t much coupledom with these guys, the story is about a girl trying not to be a vampire while giving a ride to a vampire. But what little romance there is between them is wonderful and not at all gushy and soppy. Gavriel is a fantastically crazy, old vampire and Tana is a teenage girl who offered him help when no one else ever had and his curiosity got the better of him. He’s a monster and yet she loves him the way he is and he’s just as fascinated with her. I hope the possible future he painted happened because that would have just been perfect for them both.

“Allow me to explain how my whole life has prepared me for this moment. I am used to girls screaming and your screams – yours screams will be sweeter than another’s cries of love.”
“Ok, you can stay. I want you to stay. Please stay.”
- page 418

3 Katniss and Peeta – The Hunger Games

by Suzanne Collins

While I didn’t like the last book of this series, the films made it all better. I just loved how they came to be everything for each other, no one else understood. There’s was a quieter love though, his started as infatuation and she was slow to realise hers. I love the scene where she thinks he’s dead – the scene that convinces Finnick that she loves him – because it shows that she does, though she doesn’t know it yet. I also love the scene when she shows just how well she knew Peeta. It all just shows how she wasn’t as uncaring as she always thought she was – to have picked all this up. Perhaps there’s is an odd relationship, but they were another partnership that worked perfectly.

 ”Your favourite colour . . . it’s green?”
“That’s right. And yours is orange.”
“Orange?”
“Not bright orange. But soft. Like the sunset,At least, that’s what you told me once.”
“Oh.Thank you.”
“You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.”
-Mockingjay

4 Thierry and Hannah – Soulmate – The Nightworld Series #6

By L.J.Smith

Theirs always seemed to be the most epic of the soulmate matches in this series to me. The years and years of pain and heart break and despite it all he was still so, so kind. In the end though, I hated her decision. I was completely against it! And not just because teenage me loved this vampire type. After all that they had been through -all HE had been through – it always just seemed so cruel and selfish to me.

“We were supposed to be sacred to each other – and you haven’t been there!”
“I’ve tried!”
- page 74

5 Vanyel and Tylendel/Stefen – The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy

by Mercedes Lackey

No, this isn’t a threesome, we’re doing couples. So how does that work? Well, read the world and you’ll see! Theirs is a tragic story from start to finish really. But I do love my epic love stories and in a list of such, this most certainly needs to be there.

“I love you, too. You’re absolutely the best friend, the dearest love I’ve ever had. I’ll love you as long as there’s anything left of me.” – page 320 Magic’s Price

6 Lucien and Anya -  The Darkest Kiss

by Gena Showalter

First in my choices this week is Lucien and Anya from The Darkest Kiss, book 2 of the Lords of the Underworld. The thing I love about this couple is that they tease and torment each other all the time. Anya is a beautiful goddess and Lucien is the guardian of the demon death. He isn’t pretty and yet Anya still finds him irresistible. They have great chemistry which leads to some rather steamy sex scenes. They get into some hilarious situations while chasing each other across the world. This one especially makes me giggle…

“What I did mind was being hit by a cab, then landing on the lap of a naked man. With an erection, Anya. He had an erection.”

7 Yves and Phoenix – Stealing Phoenix

by Joss Stirling

I love Joss Stirlings Benedict family and I love the whole idea that there is someone out there who is your perfect other half. Phoenix doesn’t really like Yves to start with but Yves’ determination that they are meant to be together and his dorky cute ways slowly win her over. So adorable.

“Soulfinders can’t be bad for each other – they are each other. We aren’t complete apart.”

8 Twylla and Lief – The Sin Eater’s Daughter

by Melinda Salisbury

Can’t find a quote for this one. But what I loved about Twylla and Lief was how he slowly made himself indispensable to her and made her feel really wanted and beautiful. And when they finally connect the fireworks! Phwwarrrr. Be still my heart!

9 Lou and Will – Me Before You

by Jojo Moyes

This was the most heart-breaking romance I ever read and I don’t think anyone can say these two shouldn’t be on a list of best couples. Their romance was beautiful and heart-warming, with wonderful moments that made me laugh out loud. And that ending shattered my heart into tiny pieces but I don’t regret one moment of it.

“All I can say is that you make me… you make me into someone I couldn’t even imagine. You make me happy, even when you’re awful. I would rather be with you – even the you that you seem to think is diminished – than with anyone else in the world.”

10 Dorian and Jasper – The Girl at Midnight

by Melissa Grey

So many people will obviously think Echo and Caius when thinking of great couples in The Girl at Midnight, but for me Dorian and Jasper were the highlight of this book. I suppose technically they were never officially a couple but the banter and all the awkward flirting. makes me hope for a future romance! I would love to see this happen!

“I don’t need a babysitter,” Dorian grumbled.
Jasper’s smile widened, and Dorian was reminded of a fox baring its teeth. “Maybe I do.”’

Peeta & Katniss, YES! :D I also agree with what you said about the books. Though, I enjoyed the last book, I fell more for them in the movies. I love the quote that you chose. It made me smile :)

Thank you! I felt like the last book was really out of character which was sad. I’s one of my favourite quotes and I was SO happy it was in the film. All the best lines were and that’s surprising.
Love your list! There are a few couples there from books on my to-read pile and I can’t wait to get round to them! The Wrath and the Dawn, Illuminae and the rest of the Throne of Glass series (I read the novellas first and I think I’m a Celaena and Sam fan though)
