Sum it up Sunday – February 2016

pamsumitup

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Paein:
I’m re-reading the first two Winners Curse Trilogy books ready for Winners Kiss, which I have to review, SO EXCITED!! I’ll be reading that tomorrow…

What was your favourite book this month?

Paein:
Uh oh…I had a whole group of them this month! Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton, Broken Banners by Mark Gelineau and Joe King and both Shadow Study and Night Study by Maria V Snyder!

What was your least favourite book this month?

Paein:
I had a Did Not Finish this month at roughly 40%, it was a Netgalley book, Glass Castle by Trisha Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins. It comes out at the beginning of March, but it wasn’t what I thought it was. I was thinking something like The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen, but Glass Castle is for a younger age group than I was expecting which made things more clunky and obvious. Nothing wrong with the book, just not for me.

Ms4Tune:
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – I had such high hopes for this one but in the end it just didn’t hold my attention. It felt like something was missing.

What do you want to read next?

Paein:
Six of Crows is still on this list! Though I may retire it until book 2 is out. I have some amazing netgalley books to read this month for early April reviews and I want to slip in a few series!

Ms4Tune:
I really want to read this right now but I’m trying to stick to my planner so once I’ve read Nerve and Into the Dim I will finally be able to pick up Walk the Edge!

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

Paein:
The Winner’s Kiss is my only pre-order this month, unless I find anything else.

Ms4Tune:
The Winner’s Kiss, There are certain books we just can’t resist :P

How are your challenges going?

Paein:
I managed to read another 4 books for  The Popsugar Challenge, quite by accident I must admit so I’m now at 10/40. No more complete series yet though!

Ms4Tune:
The Popsugar Challenge – I’m up to 10/40 now which I think puts me on track!
The Series Completion Challenge – Still nada, I have reserved the next in the Miss Peregrine Series though so perhaps next month I’ll have finished one series!

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

Paein:
Continue the shelf organising! I’m loving it. done 3 so far. Clear out a few more books. took 6 off my selves this month, but most of them were non fiction. Work on my Netgalley titles – some have been about a while, I seem to have some kind of fear/need to get my list down to 0. Work on my challenges! And get some sleep, been reading too much this last week, need to catch the sleep.

Ms4Tune:
1. I’d like to finish the library books I’ve had out for a while now.
2. Try to get to 75% with my Netgalley requests (Currently I’m at 72%)
3. I’d like to complete one series… just one…

Did you complete this month’s targets?

Paein:
No, my reviews are still sloppy. Need to dig out my guidelines. Some of the issue may be time, so I’ll also try and take more time with them. I’ve improved my twitter visits though! If I miss a day, I post two the next, but instagram is a graveyard….And, as I’ve said I’ve organised 3 shelves! I should have photographed a before to compare them. Oh well.Still can’t decide if I want to mix the read with the to-read yet though…Maybe in the name of keeping series together?…

Ms4Tune:
Ermmm yes about that…
1. Complete a Series - As I’ve said already… sadly no.
2. Read more Male Author Books/ Male POV books - 2/6 of the books I read this month, which is better than last month.
3. Keep on top of netgalley arcs – I’ve done my best but I think I could do better
4. Return to the library – I didn’t this month mainly because I got 5 books out last time and I haven’t quite finished them all yet.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?
Any News?

Paein:
I’ve signed up to two book subscriptions this month! Both will arrive next month. One is a one off, Prudence and The Crow, which is more about vintage books and will be dispatched on the 14th March and The Willoughby Book Club, which is three months and I chose the YA selection – tihs box is dispatched on the first of each month, so my first will be dispatched on the 1st March. Both are UK based and I’d thought I’d give them a go! I was sad that Upper Case Box was US based as that looked exciting too!

I also had my request for WINNERS KISS accepted on Netgalley. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to read this! I’ve had little sleep this second half of February, just to cram in all these books I wanted to get in. I failed, but it wasn’t from lack of trying.

And I saw Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I loved it! I’m yet to read the book, but the film was very well done.

Ms4Tune:
I was ill this month so I’ve not done much of anything.
We got a Top Ten Tuesday post mentioned on facebook by Mark Lawrence. So exciting!
