Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten books we’d give theme songs to/10 songs I wish that were books.
We’ve chosen songs that we think match with certain books.
If anyone knows what book it was that made me start singing “If I could, turn back time” I’d add that to the list too!
1 Demons by Imagine Dragons
Spirit Bound/Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead
“Don’t wanna let you down
But I am, hell bound
Though this is all for you
Don’t wanna hide the truth”
Just, the whole song makes me think of Dimitri and his state of mind through the end of Spirit Bound and most of Last Sacrifice. Just, the whole thing is heart breaking and I absolutely love this song. It’s my current repeat song while I’m Data Dealing. I’ve chosen this verse, because the ones I really wanted to choose to prove my point would have given far too much away! I also love this verse too though.
2 Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paloma Faith
Winners Curse/Crime by Marie Rutkoski
I tell myself you don’t mean a thing,
And what we got, got no hold on me
But when you’re not there I just crumble
I tell myself I don’t care that much,
But I feel like I die ’til I feel your touch,
I think Ms4Tune’s taste in tragic romance is rubbing off on me, though I’d have to claim I prefer them ‘bittersweet’! These guys, they’re all over the place. They’re in love but they seem to be on opposite sides of the war. Just WHAT is going on with them?! I can’t wait to find out next month when the last book is in my hands!
3 Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
Finding Sky by Joss Stirling
Come back and tell me why
I’m feeling like I’ve missed you all this time, oh, oh, oh.
And meet me there tonight
And let me know that it’s not all in my mind.
This one may be a little off, I haven’t read this book in a while, but from what I remember this song seems perfect. The sudden belonging, the realisation that the other person has been missing all your life – it’s a soulmate song for a soulmate story.
4 The War Inside – Switchfoot
Prince of thorns by Mark Lawrence
I am the war inside
I am the battle line
I am the rising tide
I am the war I fight
Eyes open, open wide
I can feel like a crack in my spine
I can feel like the back of my mind
I am the war inside
Another semi-vague one. I don’t know if this song makes me think of this book, because I loved the song when I first heard it and I was reading this book at the time or if the song fits with the book – it’s been awhile and this is another series I want to finish soon. But the verse I’ve chosen I think reflects Jorg’s thoughts well.
5 Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
Tarnished by Kate Jarvik Birch
I’m waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my system blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
There’s a revolution going on in this world, but the rich men in power aren’t liking it. And it’s being lead by a ‘pet’ named Ella. You go girl!
Listening to this song the other day made me think of this book series multiple times, but trying to lyric match right now was pretty hard! How odd.
6 Better Place by Rachel Platten
The Secret of Letting Go by Katherine Fleet
‘But it feels like, I’ve opened my eyes again,
And the colours are golden and bright again,
There’s a song in my heart, I feel like I belong
It’s a better place since you came along.’
When I was reading The Secret of Letting Go I was listening to Rachel Platten’s album Wildfire and I thought this song worked perfectly with the story. The book is about a girl who needs saving and the boy that saves her. It’s really cute and really sweet and this song sums it up perfectly.
7 Never Forget You by Mnek & Zara Larsson
Avoiding Series by K A Linde
‘I will never forget you, you will always be by my side,
From the day that I met you, I knew that I would love you till the day I die.’
I’m a total addict of K A Linde’s Avoiding Series. I both hate and love Jack, just like Lexi. I picked Mnek and Zara Larsson’s Never Forget You song out of about 5 that I thought would go with this book. It’s spot on with the message that you can love someone even if it doesn’t work out.
8 Human by Christina Perri
Everneath by Brodie Ashton
‘I can fake a smile,
I can force a laugh,
I can dance and play the part
If that’s what you ask,
Give you all I am…
But I’m only Human’
I’m not really sure why this song and this book make sense to me but they just do… I remember thinking that Nikki seemed really sad all the way through the book and that she was hiding it to make it better for everyone else and for me this song does the same thing.
9 Everybody’s Dancing and I want to Die by Deaf Havana
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
‘Cause everybody’s dancing and I don’t feel the same
This room is full of people who barely know my name
And I don’t feel like dancing on my own again
Another year without a friend
Another year where I just close my eyes and dance inside my head’
Something about its upbeat tempo and sad message makes me think of the lost and broken Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I’m glad he won’t have to dance alone forever.
10 Hey Brother by Avici
Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry
‘Hey brother, there’s an endless road to re-discover.
Hey sister, know the water’s sweet but blood is thicker.
Oh if the sky comes falling down, for you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.’
I like this song more than this book to be honest but I like that they are both about families.
I have book two of Thunder Road so I’m hoping for some more Blood is thicker than Water storylines and plenty of biker gang mayhem.
