Musing Mondays

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from A Daily Rhythm!

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: How do you choose which books you read?
LAST WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Do you read more than one book at once? Why, or why not?

I’m currently reading Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I’ve been reading this one for quite a while now mainly because I’ve been ill and my concentration has been pretty low but so far I’m about half of the way through and I’m finding it rather bizarre! The pictures are weird and I like the quirky idea that they all have some strange back stories but I’m not really sure how I feel about the story so far. It seems a bit disjointed and just really really WEIRD!!! Has anyone else read it? What do you think? Also I hear it’s going to be a film this year??? I can see it being an epic film though.

How do I choose which books I read?

Recently I’ve tended to prioritise my ARC books. So, when I’m choosing what to request I go by type ie age group (usually YA) and genre (usually fantasy/sci-fi) and then I’m quite bad… I go by how pretty the cover is… I know you may shoot me now… and then whether the description sounds good. Sometimes if I can’t tell by then, if I want to read it or not, I cross reference to Goodreads to see what it’s reception so far has been. If its received 3 or more stars so far, I’m likely to give it a go.

I’ve included last weeks random question because I wanted to answer it.

So Do I read more than one book at a time. Usually no. I like to get completely immersed in a world and to do that I like to be completely focused on it. But sometimes, such as when I read a heavy fantasy, sci-fi or historical book, I like to break it up with an easy going romance. Also those kind of books end up being tomb stones of books that are too heavy to carry around so I tend to end up reading a kindle book at the same time cos I like to have something to read whilst out and about. Currently I’m only reading one book :)

Have fun reading Miss Peregrine’s! I read the first one but the second one is taking me a while because my attention span is at a low for it. I wish I could prioritize and reads arcs before. I do exactly as you do when I request a book… exactly. I like the vibe of your blog! Definitely following :) Happy Monday.

Haha, thanks. It’s picked up a bit, but I’m still having issues. Its just slow and I can’t figure out where its going?! It’s like the film Groundhog Day meets the film Big Fish. Very strange. lol. Aww so glad to hear other people have the same selection process. I always feel bad when I say I judge by cover before blurb but its the truth.

Aww thank you for following our blog! I hope you enjoy our posts and I’ll be popping over to your blog asap! :) Happy Reading!

I read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children last year. Well, I finished it last year. It took me like 7 months to read it. I thought the same way you are thinking. It’s bizarre! And not in a good way. I just couldn’t get into it. I loved the idea of incorporating those pictures, but it didn’t work for me. It was kind of all over the place, and I just lost interest. I practically forced myself to finish it. But you’re right. The movie could be epic. This may be one of those rare occasions where the movie is better than the book…

Hi Cheryl, I’m glad I’m not the only one. It’s taking me so long to read this and I keep looking at my TBR pile! It’s building up quickly. I think you’re right it may be one of those rare ones that works better as a film, it’s odd cos there are pictures but I think this story needs more visuals lol.

      Happy Reading!

I have been eyeing Miss Peregrine’s for a while, but something always stops me. Perhaps the weirdness factor is showing itself…LOL.

It sounds as though you have quite a nice and logical process for choosing books…what better than the steps you take? I also like choosing from favorite authors, blurbs, pretty covers, etc.

Here is my MONDAY MUSINGS POST

Thank you, I try to be slightly logical otherwise my TBR pile would be sooo much bigger than it is! Oh! I agree, favourite authors should always get a free pass to the top of a TBR pile hehe.

Thanks for stopping by, Happy Reading!

I’ve seen a lot of good things about Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, but I just haven’t read it yet. I have heard about the film, so I might eventually give the book a chance.

Hi Breana, you sound just like me. I like to read the book before a film. I’d love to hear what you think once you have read it, so please stop by again. :)
