Musing Monday

pammusing
It’s time for Musing Mondays, a meme from Books and a Beat!

(Please note it has moved from A Daily Rhythm)

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer and then supplies a random question:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

So, Up next I think I’ll read…Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

I got this from the publisher on Netgalley. I’ve seen some disappointing reviews about it, but I’m hoping I will still enjoy it.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Have you ever read a book after watching the movie/television version only to find that you don’t like the book as much as the adaptation?

Yes I have! Paein and I tried to do a comparison once. Where we would alternate between who would reading a book before/after the film and see whether we agreed if the book or film was better. Most of the time we disagreed :P

Sometimes I think adaptations work well. For me, The 100 is a really good example. I really enjoy both the books and the tv series, possibly because they had the same premise but drifted apart quite quickly. (I hope you’ll agree that they are pretty different). The Hunger Games on the other hand, I found really enjoyable and they managed to stick pretty close to the storyline of the book, so you see it doesn’t have to change the story to be great.

However, sometime a story tries to stick to the storyline and can come across a little dry. For this, I’m thinking of Vampire Academy. I loved the book and I was so disappointed but the film, it felt like something was missing. (But if you talk to Paein, she loved the film, although she hadn’t read the book..)

My worst Film pre book fiasco however, was PS I Love You. God how I cried at the film. I loved it. But when I read the book??? What the hell, so much was different. One blatant one was in the film, they’re American… in the book Irish… They travel to Ireland in the film… they travelled to Spain (I think) in the book… I spent so long noting the changes, and puzzling over them that I never really got into the book. I was quite put out… especially after I gave my paperback to my sister-in-law and within the first few chapters she was in floods of tears… I wanted that…

ps i love you

How about you???

The Hunger Games films really stayed true to the books which I really liked. I’ve been meaning to get into The 100. Either the book or the TV show. I haven’t decided which one yet. Enjoy Passenger! I really want to read that one at some point.
