Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Websites We Love That Aren’t About Books

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Top Ten Websites We Love That Aren’t About Books.

Paein

Amazon is almost a weekly stop for me, but I thought that might just class as a book website! So I’ve discounted it. I’m not counting Instagram because to me that’s still an app and the same goes for Pinterest.

1 Youtube

youtube

I love youtube! I spent a lot of time on there, when I’m not on netflix. I tend to listen to songs on Youtube while blog writing or when I need to concentrate at work (LOVE the loop setting). I also use it to learn new crochet stitches or how to do/make things I’ve also searched for reviews of things I’m thinking of buying and I spend a lot of time watching crappy or sometimes informative videos by buzzfeed or about zero waste or different cultures or how to repaint barbies or what not to do when the zombie apocalypse is coming (I don’t think I’ve ever watched that last one, but you end up watching weird crap you’re never likely to need/like while procrastinating on youtube).

2 Love Knitting

loveknitting

Is my new favourite yarn source now I’m addicted to crochet. Previously I’ve used Hobbycraft for crafting needs and The Works (Though not for yarn and I also buy a lot of things via amazon). But I’m all about more natural fibres ( they breathe better and help cut back on the amount of electric shocks I get…) and loveknitting has a fantastic range of wool. It also helped me to further my collection of crochet hooks, cause I need to own one in every size possible jist in case. They annoyingly send me emails each week with money off stuff I can’t afford. I keep ‘window shopping’ and not actually following through because I dont need to dammat! I’ve 3 projects on the go right now and the only reason I don’t have more is because the other two I have in mind require the same crochet hook as 2 others. While I’ve got stitch holders, I feel it prudent not to have more than one project per hook at one time – I have no idea why….

3 CurlyEmporium aka British Curlies

britishcurlies

I buy a LOT of curly hair products from here, I’m still looking for the perfect one. I haven’t got anything from here in a while now though because I’ve complied a nice stock and I’m running out of cupboard space. Pluss Boots are now selling Sheamoisture and hada 3 for 2 offer for a ridiculously long time on their site for conditioners etc and I’ve discovered that Sephora ship to the UK so I’ve been periodically bulk buying DevaCurl one condition decadence from there. But there are things that only British Curlies – as it now seems to be – sell, so I’ll be back on there in no time.

LoveLula

I’ve switched my make up over to organics and/or naturals. I get some of it from here and some from 100%Pure. I’ve cut out foundation, but I use RMS beauty’s uncover up concealer where I feel I need to. It’s expensive for a tiny tub, but so far mine has lasted me 2 years – or you could argue a year and a bit as in the summer I get some colour so I wear a darker colour. I’m really impressed because I think the little tiny container will last me another year too! My mascara I get from 100% pure, they have a new one that has more wax in it that their last – I have pretty straight growing-down eyelashes and I used to wear waterproof mascara for the wax to hold the curl I add to my lashes, so far this is the only mascara I’ve found that manages to do something similar.
I also buy other things from here. Periodically I browse the site to see if there is anything else I can replace. I also buy things from Lush sometimes too. They have good solid options of so many liquids we use. Like shampoo and conditioner bars, toothtabs and even shower powder that helps to cut down on your liquids when you travel. While I do make a lot of my own stuff now, sometimes you just want to save yourself the trouble/have an exciting treat or something new.

My Pure

mypure

This is a relatively new site that I’ve found, I discovered it because I googled my perfume looking for somewhere that sold it because LoveLula had stopped doing it. I’ve found some pretty exciting things on here. I currently have an ‘ecoegg’ on order (for washing) as well as some organic house cleaning products, so we’ll see how that goes! I’ve even found earl grey tea lip-balm on here which I’m excited about, but I haven’t explored the make up, skin care or hair care as I’m already happy with where I get all that from.

So in comparison to Paein I lead quite a boring internet life. Most of my web-life is dedicated to Books or Social-media. But I have searched through my browser history to find something different, something that might be a little more exciting than Facebook.

6 Paper Panda
Paperpanda

I’ve been really into paper-cutting craft for a few years now. It was always something I enjoyed doing at university but I was struggling to find the time to design and cut out my own images. Then I found Paper Panda! She produces some amazing designs that are downloadable. My lovely husband bought me a few designs one Christmas and I’ve loved just sitting down in the evening and cutting them out. There’s something so therapeutic about the process, very like adult colouring in, but with tools that could cause you harm if you don’t concentrate quite enough… Anyway it’s helped me perfect cutting out curves and circles (something very very difficult to do – if you haven’t tried it) and I hope someday to be able to create something amazing of my own… something perhaps like Hari & Deepti… another paper-cutting group I follow. Think I need a little more practice first!

Sticky 9

You may have seen these in your facebook feed. Its a company that take your photos – from instagram, facebook etc – and create square fridge magnets out of them! So far I’ve only ever bought these when they’ve had a sale on, but I do think they are good value for money (even better with a discount). The quality is really good and every time I go to my fridge I smile at all the great memories that now cover the door. I’ve probably got too many but they stick to radiators to, so I’ll just cover them next!

8 Greyhound Homer

Greyhound Homer

If you don’t know I have a retired Grey. His name is Mardy. He’s 11 years old and we’ve had him for 8 years. We also had Jeanie a beautiful black grey who sadly past away last year, she was my soulmate in dog form and I miss her terribly. I can honestly say that Greyhoundhomer are amazing. They take greyhounds in after they are retired from the race-track and some because they are no good as racers at all. They look after them and try to find them a forever home with a suitable and perfectly matched owner. If it wasn’t for these guys I would never have found Mardy or Jeanie and my life would have been so much less because of it. Greyhounds are amazingly quite, gentle and loving animals. For dogs that race they need very little exercise, preferring shorter walks and sleeping for large portions of the day. Mardy has been lonely since Jeanie died and we have been considering getting another to keep him company as he gets so excited seeing Nancy, a young grey who lives next door. There are retired greyhound trusts all over the place and I would recommend them as pets to anyone and everyone. I know they’re possibly not as cute and fluffy as some other breeds but they are so amazing and usually very well behaved (all the training you see) – and all greyhounds are pedigree don’t forget that!

9 Creme de Chevre

creme de chevre

I love visiting this website to see if they’ve had any new videos on you-tube or if they have any events coming up. I first saw Creme De Chevre in 2013 at Fling Festival in Chelmsford. They have a wonderfully comical sound singing famous songs in their Essex Twang accompanied by a band including a Ukulele. Genius I’m telling you, but an acquired taste. Go listen to some of their stuff and see what you think. :)

10 Etsy and Society6

 etsysociety 6

Etsy and Society6 are websites I frequent a lot! I love that I can find and buy so many beautiful and unique things all in one place! From Etsy I’ve bought my garter and headpiece for my wedding, necklaces and bracelets for myself and others, I’ve bought bookmarks and ceramics as well as prints and candles. You name it you can find it there and from all over the world! Society6 has supplied me with so many beautiful prints – large and small, cases for my tablet and for my pillows and mugs for my cupboard. I was so happy when I found I could purchase Alice X Zhang‘s artwork on Society6 I almost cried! Her Dr Who and Frozen prints are to die for!
