Sum it up Sunday – June 2017

Sum it up Sunday is a feature post we are going to trial for the closing Sundays of each month. In these posts we’ll detail various things that have excited or upset us over that month.
If you’d like to join us in our summing up, please feel free! Just please, provide a link back to our blog. Thank you.

What are you reading right now?

Darien  by C.F. Iggulden

and The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
and Dragonfly In Amber by Diana Gabaldon
Darien is another Netgalley book, but it’s a little slow to start so,
I thought I should read The Assassin’s Blade before Throne of Glass
and Dragonfly in Amber is my current audio book for car journeys etc.

The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
and When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
I was supposed to finish The Bone Witch in time for it to count towards our Cover Colour Challenge but I got distracted.
And I had to start When Dimple Met Rishi as soon as it arrived because I’ve heard so many good things about it and it sounds funny and sweet.

What was your favourite book this month?

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
Not as good as The Wrath and the Dawn, but I still enjoyed it!

Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
I loved this sequel. It’s not often that a sequel is just as good as its predecessor but Traitor to the Throne was amazing.

What was your least favourite book this month?

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza
Everyone kept telling me I’d like this book and while it was interesting I just didn’t love it.

Hidden Blade by Pippa DaCosta
I have a hit and miss relationship with Pippa DaCosta’s work and sadly Hidden Blade was a disappointment for me.
I was hoping for a series similar to Chaos Rises but this was no were near as good.

What do you want to read next?

A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE! I’ve finally got up to date with the show and need to know more But I think the show is now ahead of the books, right?!
So July is white books which means it’s time to start Throne of Glass…

throne of glass

I should really get started on some white books for the Cover Colour Challenge but I also need to get back to reading and reviewing my ARC copies.
So I’m not sure what I will read next but probably one of these:

flame in the mist Mask of Shadows Odd and True
starborn A Conjuring of Light Everything Everything

What books are you hoping to collect next month?

I have no pre-orders because of book boxes!

I’ve got a Fairyloot Box for July on order but other than than, nothing.

How are your challenges going?

Actually quite well, just checked. I’m one book short of completing the Uppercase Challenge! This is a novel experience! No pun intended. I’m just short ‘a book being made into a film.’ Any ideas?
I also got in 4 purpleish books this month too.

I haven’t really read anything towards my challenges but I’m hoping next month to get back on it!

Anything you’re going to try and do more of next month?

Possibly read, I’ve not been reading as much, though I’m not sure why as it’s not like I’ve been doing a bunch of other stuff instead – have I? hmm So maybe I’ll try and read everyday.
I’ll add it as an item in my bullet journal.

I want to read at least one book towards my Uppercase Reading Challenge and one towards my Cover Colour Challenge.
And if at least one of these could be a Netgalley book that I need to review, then that would be great too.

Did you complete this month’s targets?

I READ NETGALLEY BOOKS!! TWO!!! and a half….but I requested about 5 more….so that’s a problem
I’ve added them to my bullet journal so I can see what I have and when it will be/was published so that I can get them in before their date or as and when…

I did read more so YAY! Go me.

Any rants or raves?
Anything to boast about?

I currently own one special edition of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone – and that one I picked up Friday in the supermarket. I’m so angry with amazon right now, they kept sending me damaged copies and right now they’re not acknowledging the emails I’m sending them either.
On a happier note Emily_R_King shared my picture on Instagram! that was pretty exciting, thank you Emily!

So for the first time in a long time I posted a picture on instagram. A book related post with my beautiful little girl in it!
And to my surprise Alwyn Hamilton (Traitor to the Thrones author) liked my post. THAT MADE MY DAY!
