Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks topic is Top Ten Books to Pull You Out of a Reading Slump
Paein
1 The Night world Series
by L J Smith
These are old favourites and they’re pretty short so it’s possible to fit one or two into a day! They’re well paced, have super grabby first lines and feature only the most subtle of love triangles if any at all!
2 Street Magic
by Tammora Pierce
This is actually a book in series 2, but it’s one of my favourite from the series. I love Briar and his apprentice and what he’s capable of. I think his magic is my favourite – but the others are all close behind.
I also like The Will of the Empress – I like the ones when the circle members are crossed and people find out why they’re so well thought of my so many powerful magicians…
3 Mars (or some other Manga)
by Fuyumi Soryo
Sometimes, when I’m stuck I like to read a manga. Mars is one I periodically like to re-read. They’re pretty quick since the pages are mostly pictures. You have to be careful though! Quite a few series have the tendency to carry on past the HEA right into a tragedy…
4 Harry Potter
by J K Rowling
Can’t really go wrong with Harry Potter – and I have so many editions to choose from!
Actually, I need to re-read them because several things have been said since the last time I read them;
They’re written from Harry’s point of view so how he describes people, for example, is pretty telling. Also, you have to pay attention to what Ron says, (especially when he’s angry, I think it is) because he’s right!
Doesn’t that just make you want to re-read them now?!
5 Whatever you’ve been dying to [re]read!
This isn’t a cop out, Right now for me I think it would be The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. I’m not really in a reading slump though – I’m reading two books I’ve been enjoying however I’m in the middle of re-decorating and I’ve berried one and banned myself from the other while I try and get some more work done!
Sometimes you just need to throw reading schedules to the wind and choose the last book you loved or a book that’s been on your mind. I’d suggest a re-read over a new read because you can skip the bits you didn’t like and focus on the bits you loved. Some people don’t like to re-read though, so to you I’d recommend the last book you got excited about getting.

I will be raiding peoples lists this week because I have been in a seriously horrendous reading slump for about 3 months now!
6 The Cruel Prince
by Holly Black
This was probably the last book that really grabbed me and wouldn’t let me put it down. It’s amazing but I hope I don’t have to wait for book two to get out of my current reading slump because its not officially released till January NEXT YEAR! Ughhh. ooow but there is a novella due out in October! - The Lost Sisters. IT WILL BE MINE!!
7 The Language of Thorns
by Leigh Bardugo
This was a good one. I read it when I wasn’t really feeling up to reading much. It’s a book of short stories so I could pick it up and read one every now and then and not feel pressured, and although it relates to Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha series you don’t necessarily have to have read it to enjoy these stories because they are more like fables.
8 Song of the Current
by Sarah Tolscher
I really enjoyed this book. Its quite a fun, easy to read YA fantasy. Sure it used a few tropes but that’s what gave it it’s easy flow.
9 The Jackaby Series
by William Ritter
Ok so when I’m in a reading slump I don’t necessary want something new and different, I sometimes need something that’s familiar, like a security blanket. The Jackaby series provided both. It was new and quirky but with all the hallmarks of a long lost friend.
10 Rend the Dark
by Mark Gellineau and Joe King
Another short story, but sometimes the thought of starting another large book only to put it down is sooo disappointing that I just don’t want to put myself through it. Short stories are at least manageable. I can push through or ignore if necessary. Rend the Dark was an amazing short story, full of scary, heart stopping suspense. There are 8 of these short stories currently available and I can honestly say that, if they do anymore, I will be first in line to buy them because I thought this pair wrote some awesome stuff!
The Language of Thorns was on my list this week too! And you can’t go wrong with Harry Potter
