Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten New-To-Me Favourite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

pamstopten

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that other bloggers are welcome to join in, to create Top Ten lists on varying topics. This week it’s Ten New-To-Me Favourite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

Paein

This was semi hard, I read a lot of the same authors – even when stepping out of my comfort zones!

 Traitors Blade/knight’s Shadow

I’m obsessed with this series, as you may or may not know. I found it through netgalley, when they had book 2 and I requested it without realising it was a book 2. I’m so happy I found this series and I’m prepared to read other things by this author – as long as the story is my kind of story of course.

 Starborn

Another from Netgalley, this one sort of just exploded at the end (as far as I remember – it’s been a little while) and it wasn’t the end! I’ll most definately be getting the next one in this series too! Unless I totally missed the point and that was the end…I hope not. I would also consider reading more by this author too! For some reason it puts me in mind of the series by Elizabeth Vaughn which starts with Red Gloves – but that’s probably because of the name(s).

 The Martian

I was recommended to read this one before I saw the film – which I did. And while this is probably not my usual book, I really enjoyed it. I’d consider reading another book by this author because of this one.

 Twelve Kings

Sometimes descriptions can sound so very dry while the books really aren’t. Having enjoyed the Twelve Kings, I feel that I’d enjoy more of Bradley’s books and I hope to get the chance to try another soon,

 perfected/tarnished

This one really surprised me. I was sure this was going to be an average teen series but it didn’t wholly conform to the teen pattern and I have high hopes for this author in the future.

6 Leigh Bardugo - Six of Crows

I bought Six of Crows because of the beautiful cover and the description that mentioned thieves, magic, spies and convicts. It only took a few pages for me to realised this was special. I loved her gritty storylines, I loved that she didn’t mind killing off characters and that it was quite graphic! This is probably my favourite book of 2015 so you’ll see it again next week on best books of 2015! I’m so happy that there is a complete trilogy out there, set in the same world! Because that means I don’t have to wait till next year to get another fix of Leigh Bardugo’s writing! Obviously I have bought all of them already and plan to read them early next year.

7 Emily Wibberley - Sacrificed

This was a debut novel that got through Netgalley. Praise ye Netgalley for all the beauties you have sent my way this year! I was really impressed with Sacrificed. I liked the style, the narrative voices and the plot. It just worked and I want to read book 2, Forsworn before the end of the year!

8 V E Schwab – A Darker Shade of Magic

How I have lived without V E Schwab in my life prior to this point I have no idea. But I am definitely going to read all her books from now on. I have bought Vicious which will be my next read!

9 Brandon Sanderson – Steelheart

This was my first taste of what Brandon Sanderson has to offer and I really liked it. I’ve been told by my brother that his adult fantasy series’ are better than this one so I can’t wait to compare. I’m hoping to read his Mistborn series next year.

10 Libba Bray – The Diviner’s and Lair of Dreams

I have had The Diviner’s for a really long time but it was only this year when Lair of Dreams appeared on Netgalley that I decided to pick it up and read it. And wow! I totally love the atmosphere and characters Libba Bray has created. I devoured every page of books one and two! I can’t wait to see what the next installment brings.
